Outline Selection Tool Help

Hi everyone, I’ve got an odd question so I’ll try and word it the best that I can. Say for example you’re making jagged snowy peaks with the outline selection tool (lasso tool), that you’ll paint in later on some mountains you’ve drawn. The jagged parts on the mountain itself look fine, but you didn’t take the time to carefully follow the contours of the mountain tops/exterior. Is there a shortcut that exists to make the overextended parts of your outline just snap to and follow the mountain contours? I’ve seen a tool for this in Photoshop, it’s the Color Range. When you open it, the color selector eye dropper appears, you could select the color of your mountain, click OK and then your outline follows the mountain’s shape. The only thing I can think of to get a somewhat similar result allowing you to paint in your desired area, is to use the alpha lock and quick groups.

Thanks!

You can create a transparency mask with the outline of the mountain. If you already have the mountain on a separate layer then use alpha lock or quick group with alpha lock for less destructive workflow. You can select a colour range in Krita, view here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad0DFTb4lO4&t=498s

There is “Contiguous Color Selection Tool” in Krita, also called “magic wand” and it has a “wand-y” icon. Make sure to check the Tool Options.
