Paint tool doesn't work, but other tools work

Type of device* : Tablet
Brand and version of the device:
System** : Xiaomi Pad 6

Hello everyone,

I seem to have run into a very strange problem.
I installed Krita from the Play Store a short while ago on a new Xiaomi Pad 6 tablet.

I am able to use the Vector tool, Circle, Line and other tools, but just not the brush tool.

Is there something I need to do to maybe download the software for the brushes separately?

I have a video showing the problem

Thank you!

Oh my gosh, please don’t use a smartphone video to illustrate a problem. My eyes are crossed just trying to focus on the different screen elements wobbling around.

Are you trying to use the paint tool on a vector layer? You need a regular paint layer in order to use the freehand brush tool.

If you’re not able to provide a proper screen video, can you upload a screenshot of the entire workspace? Don’t cut off any portion. Be sure to show the bottom status bar and have the layer selected that is giving you the problem.

Can you try finger drawing with the Basic-1 brush preset to see what happens?

I’m sorry.
I recorded my screen now using the screen recorder in this video

Ah, wow, yes the basic-1 works

Thank you for that video. I see by your comment that the regular brush works for you.

Next time you use that pencil, try using it at full opacity. In this video you had it set at 15%. Pencil strokes are already pretty light. Possibly it just can’t show at 15%.

PS - Welcome to the forum.

The initial wobbly video was useful because it showed that you’re using your finger to paint with.
I’m wondering if this is a pressure signal problem.
If you do Settings → Configure Krita → Tablet Settings then click the Tablet Tester button, you’ll get the Tablet Tester window.
Draw a short stroke on the grid area and you’ll get the detected event records at the right side of the window.
Can you copy and paste those event records to a reply here? You could make a .png screenshot of the tablet tester window if you have copy/paste difficulties.

Thank you for the hint. I was able to get it working by increasing the low point of the pressure curve.

This suggests that finger painting on your tablet gives a stylus signal with Pressure = 0% or a very low percentage.
If so, that’s a sorry situation.
If I do finger painting with my drawing tablet, it pretends to be a mouse which krita always assumes is 100% pressure level.

I don’t think you’ll be able to get 100% pressure signal with that tablet pressure curve you’ve made, as you’d notice if you used the Basic-2 Opacity brush.
All of this is assumptions until you can show the tablet tester results that I asked for.

This is the tester tool display

Krita sees your finger input as being a mouse.
That should have painted with the Freehand Brush tool and I’ve no idea why it didn’t.

I suggest that you drag the zero point of the Input Pressure Global Curve up to 1.0 to make sure you have 100% pressure at all times if you’re going to continue painting with your finger.
