First time posting something to the forums since the bug report site said to do that first; I was trying to find any posts anywhere online similar enough to figure out what the problem may be on my own, but thus far haven’t found anything. The version of Krita I’m using is 5.3.3 on Windows.
Made a palette in the regular Krita palette docker and noticed pretty early on as I was putting colors in that something wasn’t quite right: the name wasn’t showing up at the bottom section of the docker and when I’d press the save icon the asterisk would not disappear. This morning when I reopened Krita I saw that by a certain point most of what I had saved to the palette didn’t go through, most of the colors where missing, so I figured I’d just remove it and start over. I deleted it from the docker itself and went into the resource folder to delete it permanently (where the name of the palette was only the first half and not the rest of what I had typed) but as of now it’s still in the list of palettes within the docker, though I can’t click on it to open it. I went back into the resource folder to see if I hadn’t gotten rid of it fully and no as far as I can tell it’s gone.
At the moment my guess as to what might’ve caused this is that the name I saved it as to start (I used brackets at the beginning of the name to section off/emphasize what the palette was meant to be used for which was probably a bad idea), but that’s only a guess. The remade version of the palette (with no brackets used in the name) works fine. I’d appreciate some help to figure out what might be going on, if its a bug or an error on my part.
Do you remember the exact name(s) you gave to the palette? That seems like a pretty likely cause for the problems if that text ends up in the file name, since Windows has a lot of restrictions in that regard.
Mhm, it was “[Palette] Ravenloft: KotD Oerth Characters”. All of the palettes I’ve either saved or made are titled similarly, but those are all edits from after they’d already been saved with a default name with no brackets, though in my resource folder some do have the brackets and those ones haven’t presented the same issues.
The file for it that was in the resources folder was just called “[Palette]_Ravenloft”, not the full name.
Editing my response again because now that I’m thinking about it, with how it was saved in the files, it was probably the colon sign that is the issue. It doesn’t explain why it’s still stuck in the dockers list but it would probably explain everything else.
Yeah, the colon is not something you can have in regular file names on Windows. It sounds like a bug in Krita then that it’s not properly building a file name then. It evidently replaces the spaces, so there is some sort of logic that tries to clean up the name, but it’s faulty.
That makes sense. Any idea what I might be able to do about it being in the palette docker’s list even though I’ve deleted it? I’ve restarted both Krita itself and my computer multiple times, but so far nothing has changed.
You can try to exit Krita, rename or move the resourcecache.sqlite file, manually delete the busted palette file and then restart Krita to let it rebuild that file. If that somehow causes you to lose resources, exit Krita again and replace the original file.
I’ve renamed the resourcecache.sqlite file and currently waiting for krita to load; it seems like it might be stuck/frozen, but I’m going to wait it out in case it’s just taking a while; will update later.
On some systems it takes really long to rebuild the database, yeah. I don’t think anyone ever reported an actual freeze in it, just that it took extremely long in some cases.
It loaded up and the bugged/broken palette is gone, but in the process all the tags I had in place for sorting palettes, brushes, et cetera seem to be gone as well; nothing else seems to have been lost though. I don’t think I can get the tags back, so I’ll have to redo everything with regards to that. I appreciate the help though.
