Pasting a photo into Krita doesn't work

Hey there, I just started with Krita and I wanted to use a photo in the background. I copied and pasted the photo I wanted to use, but it didn’t appear in Krita. Neither with “Strg V” nor through editing and then paste. I watched a video because I thought it would maybe help, but there it worked without a problem the way I tried.
I already checked if the photo really is copied by pasting it into word and this worked.
Can anybody help or had the same problem?
Thanks a lot and sorry if I made same mistakes in the writing, english is not my mothertongue.

Welcome to the board!

Try this: Go to Kritas menu bar on the top window boarder. There go to:

File / Open existing Document as Untitled Document…

Altetnative 1: Open Krita and start with an empty new file (a4 300 dpi or sth). If you don’t know how, then just select the a4 template. Then click and hold your image in windows file explorer and drag it to Kritas empty layer and then release your mouse click. Through this your Image should be inside Krita.

Alternative 2: Close Krita completely. Go in Windows File Explorer to your picture and open it by DOUBLE clicking it. Then make a LEFT-click (left, not right!). In the smal window that opens select “copy”.
Start Krita. Hit STGR + N
Select “open from clipboard”

Hit OK

Ctrl + V ?

To create a new document from clipboard, shortcut is Ctrl + Shift + V, or menu Edit > Paste into new image (Ctrl + V is paste, and works only to paste clipboard content into an existing document)

Thanks Jeremiah,
the first option worked.

And to Grum99, pasting the photo into an existing document is what I wanted…
