I switched OS and I’m now using 5.1.3. Previously I had no problem opening pdf’s using File>Open>path/file.pdf: a menu would pop up to select the page. Now I get: "Could not open [path/file.pdf] Reason: Krita does not support this file format. Can this be resolved? (I know I can use a utility to convert pdf to images, but it’s tedious).
With the 5.1.3 appimage, I’ve just opened a .pdf file containing an image and that was fine.
Which OS are you using and if it’s Linux, are you using the appimage, which is recommended?
Is it a pure text or mixed text/image .pdf file?
No, I don’t use the app.
$ uname -r 6.0.10-arch2-1
$ krita --version
(process:419204): Gtk-WARNING **: 02:55:32.718: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.
krita 5.1.3
Tried with this, same error:
Will try app image later.
Then do use the appimage. Your arch build of Krita likely doesn’t open pdf because poppler wasn’t available. This isn’t an issue with Krita; it’s a distribution issue.

I suggest that you follow @halla’s advice:
Yes, the image works. So I posted at the OS’s forum.
