Pen lag in Krita

Type of device* : Drawing Tablet
Brand and version of the device: Huion, KAMVAS pro 13
System** : Windows 11

So recently I had the opportunity to switch to a new laptop, connecting my drawing tablet I discovered that the pen lags behind, although if I start drawing in Paint everything works fine.
so what did I try to do?

  • disabled pen stabilization
  • changed the pen tip
-played with the tablet settings in Krita and in the Huoin driver
-changed memory limit parameters in Krita

in general nothing has changed
It’s worth saying that previously I had an extremely weak laptop with Windows 10 and everything was fine

Do you have hardware acceleration enabled? (remember to restart if you change these settings)

Perhaps you could try disabling Windows Ink in your Huion driver as well

yes it is on and there Direct3D
I haven’t seen the advice about windows ink before, I turned it off, rebooted it, but it’s still the same

  • What resolution do you draw on, and what are your computer specifications?
  • If you use your mouse to draw, is the lag the same?

I can replicate the lag in your video with certain brushes, but only using a huge brush size and canvas.

Ensure that pen stabilization is disabled (or basic)

You could try Instant Preview, which will render your strokes at a lower resolution, while the calculation happens in the background.

If its not a fresh install, you could try to reset settings to ensure everything is default.

I found an older post with another user also having problems with a Huion tablet.

They changed the input api to Windows 8+, which seemed to resolve their issue. You might have to reenable Windows Ink to test this

Sorry if this is not helpful

yes it’s the same with the mouse
As for the resolution, it doesn’t matter what it is, it still slows down at least 1000 by 2000 or 18000 by 18000
I don’t know what exactly to say about the characteristics, but here it is:
RAM: 16 GB
Video card: nvidia geforce rtx 4060
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS
Windows 11

as a result, nothing helped, but I thank you immensely for trying to help

This looks as if the stabilizer was used or maybe the weighted brush tool instead of the freehand brush. Can you paste the full screenshot of your Krita window, without anything cropped?

In my experience, Huion works best in WinTab mode in Krita and the driver software (must be enabled in both places, and Krita restarted). You could also try switching to OpenGL acceleration instead of ANGLE.

Also try if the lag exists with Basic Brush 5.

Thank you. Your settings look fine to me. I have these comments only, but they won’t affect the lag:

  • Maximum brush speed should be way lower, try something like 6 px/s first. You can use tablet tester to see what your typical speed (S=…) is when drawing quickly. Having this set too high will make brushes less responsive to speed input.
  • You probably don’t need to enable the option “Use mouse events for right- and middle-clicks”.

OK, regarding the real issue. Unfortunately, I don’t have a comparable hardware to test it, but you seem to be on a laptop with two GPUs - integrated AMD Radeon and discrete NVIDIA GeForce. If you have a shortcut to run Krita, you should be able to select which GPU to run the application on, Integrated or Discrete/Performance, or something like that. Please try to run in both modes and see if any works better.

Lastly, check if disabling “Canvas Graphics Acceleration” would help get rid of the lag.

My guess is that with an external display such as the pen display, there may be a higher input lag depending on the GPU used. MS Paint won’t show this, because it has no hardware acceleration (as far as I know). Anyway, please see if you can try it and let us know. Thanks.

(Switching video card helped)
