Type of device* : Graphic tablet & pen
Brand and version of the device: Genius, Mousepen i608X
System** : Windows 10
Description of the issue (you can include screenshots): I just can’t enable pen pressure sensitivity. I don’t know much about handling my graphic tablet but I’ve followed a lot of tutorials and I’ve done all I could find. I changed the input on Krita to the WindowsInk 8+ thing, I added the pen pressure to my toolbar, I tried editing brushes, I installed the driver for my tablet, I saw people say if the tablet tester said “Mouse” I had to change that. I tried what they said, also didn’t work. I don’t know what to do! I know this is a common issue but I genuinely don’t know how to work this lmao.
Welcome and don’t worry. Of the new users who come here for help with pen pressure, I’ve seen most of them get the pressure right and then go on to enjoy Krita with no pen pressure issues. And those that don’t, it’s usually because they don’t continue to answer here and make adjustments.
Can you copy/paste about a dozen lines from Krita’s tablet tester output? It’s one of the first things to look at. If you haven’t done this yet, you’ll find it in Settings > Configure Krita > Tablet settings > Open tablet tester.
EDIT: Be sure to vary the pressure on your pen while making the test so we can see if the pressure is coming through properly.
Please don’t do that. The brushes work fine if your tablet/stylus works ok.
Use the Basic-2 Opacity or the Basic-5 Size brush preset for testing pressure response. The correct effect of varying stylus pressure is obvious with those brush presets.
Not sure why that is but the FAQ for the device says
The tablet only supports the basic function of pen pressure in Illustrator CC program.
I also found conflicting information about if it even has pressure sensitivity. Although it’s marketed as having it some models don’t seem to. Does pressure work in other programs?
The manual, in the control utility screenshots, shows no indication that Windows Ink can be enabled/disabled. This suggests that it is Windows Ink only.
If so, the obvious thing to try is Settings → Configure Krita → Tablet settings, then make sure that ‘Windows Ink’ is selected, i.e. not Wintab.
Then restart krita and try the tablet tester again.
Also, make sure that Work Mode: Pen is selected, not Work Mode: Mouse.
Any changes to the tablet settings should be followed by pressing the Apply icon then closing the control utility.
Then use the tablet tester again to see if that has given pressure sensitivity.
