Pop-up palette should reference the preset and remember the last used tag

Userstory

As user I want to use the presets given by krita in conjunction with the pop-up palette.

Current behavior

When either preset is selected and you are using the pop-up palette you will see the same selected tag on both presets.

Wanted behavior

When brush-preset is selected. One tag is shown. When the eraser-preset is selected, an other tag is shown.

I start a fresh installation.
Now I use the pop-up palette and select my digital-tag.
Now when I select the eraser-preset and use the pop-up palette. It shows the digital-tag. But I don’t want that. I want to have an other tag, to only select erasers for example.

krita could save the tags acording to the current preset.

What do you think?

So you basically want to make the pop-up palette respond to certain brush preset options. blending mode in this case, sice that’s what the eraser button does affect.

The presets are responding, wether you have an eraser or not on you stylus. But it can be triggert with a shortcut or button in the toolbar, both presets, know which brush or tool was used last.

So when you use a brush with specific options. it will be remembered when switching between the presets.

What I want is, that your pop-up palette remembers which tag you used in the corresponding preset.

Rather than responding to certain brush preset, maybe have it remember last visited tag for slot in use. Because user could set an eraser on Brush slot which happens to be within “Digital” tag but coming back to Brush slot would show Erasers tag because current preset is in eraser mode.

A slot being a shortcut, Brush or Eraser in this case. But as currently the “Toggle Eraser Preset” is a toggle on its own and hitting Brush shortcut won’t switch from Eraser slot to Brush slot this is probably impossible.

Eraser preset slot would first need to be an actual slot rather than a toggle. If you press Eraser slot (currently ‘preset’) shortcut (“1” for example) it switches to remembered eraser preset and pop-up palette shows last visited tag, in this case “erasers”. While pressing Brush slot shortcut (“2” or “B” for example) it should switch back to brush preset even if current used slot is Eraser slot and pop-up palette shows last visited tag for Brush slot.

This could later be useful if extra shortcuts for Freehand Brush Tool are added (more slots on top of current “Brush and Eraser”, such as ‘Blend’, ‘Texture’, ‘Airbrush’ or whatever).

Hope this makes sense. :hugs:

You used other words, but you do mean the same.

Pop-up palette for:
Slot/preset 1 shows last tag used for slot/preset 1
Slot/preset 2 shows last tag used for slot/preset 2

Expandable for every new slot/preset.

Could that be optional. I occasionally visit other tags but my palette stays in one- which i preferred.

I sometimes i have my last use tag in large tag groups like rakurris brushes but prefer my popup stay in my own tag - because thats the collection i use the most.

Aye, I thought you meant per brush preset as we call those “presets” but yes we thought the same.

Agree on this and this is exactly what extra slots would sort out. Instead of relying on one single brush slot we could have multiple and each would remember its own tag. Then you can have smaller preset groups (tags) that are dedicated to specific needs on their own shortcuts, or have one use “all” or some large tag even.

Perhaps those of you who do not use Android can alleviate the greatest need with the Ten Brush Slots plugin - not to be confused with Ten Brushes, it is a different plugin - until this feature request is implemented?
It seems to me that it is suitable for covering part of what is required here if it is cleverly equipped. A kind of gap filler (nothing more) until the expansion discussed here is hopefully released.

No Problem,

I don’t think it is a problem, you are most likely to draw with the brush slot. And that function stays the same as before.

I mean it would be an edge-case to say, that you draw with the eraser slot. Although you could.

My feature request is for those who miss an eraser-tool. Those could switch to the eraser slot and set the tag to eraser. In my opinion that would be equal to an eraser tool.

That is a powerful plugin. For those who are interested.:+1:
