Portrait #1

For some reason the neck feels too long in the painting, but it seems totally fine in my reference sketch, so not exactly sure what’s going on there but oh well. I should have paid more attention and mirrored the painting more frequently to keep an eye on these kinds of things

thank you

Hm. I thought about the neck problem not being visible in the sketch.
2 ideas:
a) Our brain can ignore lines in the sketch, like those of the collarbones that define the lower end of the neck. Maybe the neck already looks off, but the brain ignores it, just like it ignores the remains of the ball shape used to draw the head.
b) In the sketch, it is less visible that the rendering will be realistic. In comics or anime, proportions being slightly off may feel tolerable or a deviation from real life is even standard. A realistic painting however can fall into the “uncanny valley”.

Overall this still is a nice painting, good job on her face and hair especially. :+1:

very true. I had considered the roughness of the sketch being a possibility and you very well may be right. Thanks for the feedback and complement. I took the sketch more seriously on the portrait i started earlier today and i think it is going to look a lot better. I’m a bit of a novice in the digital art world, so Im gonna need all the feed back i can get

Amazingg!!

Whoaaaaaa this looks AMAZING!

I really love the loose style, similar to traditional paintings and it really gives back the mood of the portrait:)

Really nice portrait, seems the highlight on left side of neck in painting may give illusion that the neck is long.
