Print size view?

Hi. Is there no “Print size” view mode?
If creating for print one would often want to see what it looks like on screen at the specific print size (mm,cm,inches etc) … normally print dpi/ppi 300 sometimes up to 600 … but if the actual dimensions in mm/cm/inches is set, that’s what would want to be viewed.
When I select 100% it gives me what I think is pixels … did I miss something or is there any plugin for this?

TIA

No, Krita has no such thing because it doesn’t have a print function that let’s you print stuff. You can set a dpi and document dimensions but ultimately it’s the print program and the printers decision if it even honours these values or use whatever was set at the time of printing.

I don’t know if there’s a plug in that can show the document in physical size but even if there was one, keep in mind that it can’t change the ppi of your screen so it will never look like when it’s printed (not to mention other factors like differences in color spaces and profiles), so it still would have limits to what it can do.

I think the little “use same aspect as pixel” button in the bottom right of krita (next to the zoom slider) is this. There is actually a potential change to rename it to “Use print size” . Also there is some discussion on that button on this forum and seems like it does what you want. I’ve never used it myself though, so I would recommend you try it out/read the discussion to see if it actually does what you want.

It exists. You have to disable the small button in the bottom right besides the zoom slider. check the threads linked by @Reinold

Unfortunately currently it does only for pixel size and nothing for print size, but thnaks I’ll follow those links and see what they have to say.

A program doesn’t have to be able to print directly (although maybe this is Krita should have) to be able to have a feature to view at print size. Photoshop has this in it’s workspace (not it’s printout section) … if one can zoom in and out and knowing all the variables (pixels, mm dimensions, etc) then it should be able to calculate the print size, or at least a very near estimate. And besides Krita already supports CMYK color space and soft proofing, though exact color etc is not what I’m getting at … simple to get an idea of what the artwork is looking like size wise with hopefully a click or shortcut.

Okay awesome, just read what you wrote there and it appears to work perfectly … I just have to remember to set “adjust print size separately” and use my monitor res. there rather than the print resolution (300dpi).
I hope and look forward to this working better in future, can be confusing for many.
Thanks again.

Aha sorry, yes after ready that it seems you are correct, thank you!
