I confirm this bug - happens on my side too.
I kind of got rid of it by a script that forces the background subwindow to always fill the whole workspace (and doing a lot of other things). You can check my subwindow organizer plugin if this bugs you.
Probably it would be a good idea to check if this bug is reported and reporting it, if it is not.
