Promblems with Huion Inspiroy H640P

Type of device* : Drawing Tablet
Brand and version of the device: Huion Inspiroy H640P

PC System** : Windows 10 Pro

Hello, friend lend me a tablet, Huion H640P, everything seems ok on Krita except i cant use express keys. I bout keys like E, Crlt+Z or Tab, but no effect. On tablet settings in tester I tried, and it shows in text when I use my stylus, properly, i think.

I did set it all in Huion app installed with driver.

Any ideas how to fix the express keys?

 Hello @Alexx and welcome to the forum!

Hi, before we can get to your express-keys, you really should ensure to set up the tablet like I describe below:

The following screenshots show the way that usually makes a Huion graphics tablet working with Krita using Windows.
It is not exactly the model you use, but since the Huion driver is nearly identical for every model (Huion mainly exchanges the pictures and adapts the software to the special internals of every tablet, like a construction kit where everything is included), you should be able to identify and find what I want to describe to you.

Huion graphics tablets usually work best with Krita if you first set up a profile for Krita in the driver. To do this, simply click in the field marked at the top right of the screenshot and then click on “+ Add Program” and select Krita in the selection that opens, while Krita is running.

Furthermore, it is almost always the better choice to deactivate the option marked at the bottom left in the “Digital Pen” tab of the driver, as in the screenshot, and then in Krita under ‘‘Settings’’ → ‘‘Configure Krita’’ → ‘‘Tablet Settings’’ to select the option ‘‘WinTab’’. Then you have to confirm the dialog in Krita with the OK-Button and restart Krita. From now on, it should work for you.

And here you see what to select in Krita:

For the issue with the tablet keys not working, you have to know that these have to match another in Krita AND your driver.
This should mean that it is not enough to set a button in your Huion driver to a wanted action, like E for eraser, or CTRL + C for copy, or CTRL + Z for undo, or CTRL + V for insert, you also have to assign this action with the same specified key or key-combination in Krita’s menu ‘‘Settings’’ >> ‘‘Configure Krita’’ >> ‘‘Keyboard Shortcuts’’, or the shortcuts for on canvas actions found in the menu ‘‘Settings’’ >> ‘‘Configure Krita’’ >> ‘‘Canvas Input Settings’’, these are found here:

Another thing good to know is, that Huion’s predefined shortcuts are for an English keyboard-layout, keys like [ or ] may be easy to access on an English keyboard, on a French, German, Spanish, etc., keyboard this must not be the case, and you have to adapt or change them.

Thank you for your help. So i did all things u suggested, but sadly there is no change. The pen works just fine, and it allows me to switch to different brushes via its button that opens quick menu, but the buttons on the tablet still do not produce any reaction.

These buttons are set to the same combinations I use with my keyboard, of course.

Although this is very unlikely to be the cause of the error, you should look for the Pen & Windows Ink setting in your Windows. In the associated settings window, deselect all checkboxes if possible and set the pen shortcuts at the bottom to “Nothing”.
If it works, great!

Even if it is extremely rare that it works better (at all) with Windows Ink, you can at least try it out.
In other words, check “Windows Ink” in the Huion driver and activate the radio button ‘‘Windows 8+ Pointer Input (Windows Ink)’’ in Krita under ‘‘Settings’’ → ‘‘Configure Krita’’ → ‘‘Tablet Settings’’. Then confirm this setting with the OK button in the lower right corner of the dialog and restart Krita.
If it works, great!

If that didn’t help either, then the next you should do is to ask your friend if the keys worked for them, and if they did, then you can try the old “Windows classic” of reinstalling the tablet driver. →

AS FOLLOWS:
Unless the manual specifies otherwise, you must first disconnect the tablet from the PC, then uninstall the driver using its uninstall routine. After successful uninstallation, you must shut down the PC completely so that it can be rebooted via the power switch. So do not close the lid and reopen it, or send it to sleep mode, as is often done with notebooks, but via the Start menu → On/Off → Shut Down.
Then install the driver as specified in the manual, it is also very important to note whether the tablet must be connected during installation or whether it should not be connected at all.

Important! → After installation, again shut down the PC completely as before so that it can only be restarted using the on/off switch.
Now set the settings again as described in my first post above and hope that it now works.

No result, but I guess ill cope with what I have. I will probably buy another tablet anyway, maybe Wacom works with Krita? Also, I might test buttons in other apps, but I’ve heard they worked before.

Huion usually works without issue, so I’m a bit confused as to what the problem may be on your end. You should really try the tablet with another PC to make sure there is no problem with the keys. If I were you, I would take the tablet to the friend who lent it to you and check it with your friend’s PC. That way, you can also check the settings your friend is using for that tablet along with Krita.

On the other hand, you say you lent it, so you can return it and opt for other hardware. And if you can afford a Wacom, then it’s not the worst idea to buy one, because you can hardly get anything better at the moment, at least if you go for the top model.

What Wacom models would yo ureccomend?

Is there any chance your tablet is somehow broken? Do the keys work in another app, or on another PC?

You can get a better tablet model from Huion or other brand, H640P isn’t too high end.
For Wacom, the top of the line models are Intuos Pro, but there are two issues with them: a) these are old models, b) very expensive. Maybe even a third con, c) the driver software looks complex and outdated (personal opinion).

If you need to research tablets, there’s the best place for it, an absolute goldmine of knowledge, although a bit in-depth:

I own two tablets at the moment Intuos Pro Large PTH-860 and Huion Giano G930L, so can answer any questions related to them.
