So, as a budding, inexperienced artist, I wish to seek some advice from people more knowledgeable than me:
Which brushes are generally recommended for line art? I’ve been using the pencil brushes for them and while they seem to get the job done, I notice that they tend to get blurry when scaled up, which isn’t good.
Which brushes are recommended for shading and/or coloring? I do like some of the pencil brushes for this, particularly Pencil 4 and 6, but I wonder if I could do better.
Is it recommended that I pick up/create some custom brushes, or is sticking with the default brushes fine?
Typically, line art artists use pencil brushes for sketching but not for the final line art. Pencil brushes are designed to be slightly fuzzy and not completely opaque. b) Basic-1 will give you a solid, completely opaque line with no variances and b) Basic-5 Size will give you that same opaque line but it will vary according to pressure (as long as you’re using a tablet and stylus with pressure sensitivity).
You can use any brush for shading and coloring. I like b) Basic-2 Opacity as it responds to pressure well and is a fast brush.
You don’t need any other brushes than the bundles that come with Krita BUT it’s hard to resist trying out new ones. I have way too many but it’s fun to switch around. You can find lots of new bundles in the Resources section of this forum. Brushes and Bundles - Krita Artists
