From discussion from the above thread, a request for a different docker but with a slight overlap in functionality but totally different solution for different use arise. This thread is to discuss it;
What is a Quick Access Toolbar?
Its lets you save your most use/ favorite tools and brushes and quickly activate them.
Tools are save into Sets, each sets has its own brush and tools.
What it is for?
An ease of use feature.
This will allow one to quickly save and load sets of tools and brushes that they use on specific art.
i.e. one can create a set called “Anime”
and this set contains brushes, patterns, and tools setting that are suitable for the said session.
If someone makes a request for this, they’ll have my vote. The original request is too limited imho, and is more supposed to solve a very specific problem (that should be solved differently anyways).
I see if I can write a better, more coherent one this evening and split this out from here to there.
I know other have better grasp of how this work - in reference to other software.
As for myself have no idea of csp/ps at all. , for me this is an offshoot of my previous want which is to be able to make sets for grid options.
I wasn’t aware of the specifics of CSP’s quick access docker, as I don’t use the software myself. If you have a better description, I can change the OP with that. But how would the Quick Access docker integrate brush tags? Would it only do the favourites tag?
If there was a Quick Access docker, it should not worry about tags. It should be, as the name says, a conglomerate of things that you often use.
Below is a screenshot of my “Quick Access 1” list in CSP (as you can see, I have 4 quick access groups). It contains the stuff that I used a lot. There are erasers at the top, a lot of brushes - pencils as well as normal brushes and textures ones, some FX brushes further down, even flipping and zooming as well as an action at the very bottom). Something like could be useful in Krita as well.
Tags should only be relevant for the brush catalog section.
I quickly fired up Krita an found another issue that would support the implementation of a quick access docker even more.
When I click on a brush in the Brush Presets window, while another tool is active (let’s say Calligraphy), nothing happens - the brush is not activated. Why not? If I click on a brush in the Brush Presets, I would want to use it, right? A quick access docker would at least solve that. But overall clicking on a brush in the Brush Preset window should also switch back to the Brush tool.
So overall I agree, that relabeling this feature request towards the direction of a quick access docker might appeal to more users.
I could imagine a preference checkbox to at least load all of the favourite brushes (from the tag) into the quick access docker for people who want that. And I would prefer to have the thumbnails for brushes. The screen space could be used to create custom thumbnails for a tool so you could associate a thumbnail for a particular tool preset (e.g. particular dynamic brush smoothing settings).
Yeah. That screenshot only shows the items and the functionality. The visual representation should be up to what Krita user are used to or prefer. CSP is a bit weak on the topic of displaying brushes. Definitely something that Krita might handle better.
The votes for earlier topic is 5 and this topic has 1
I did not split the votes, discourse moves the votes if I move and merge entire topic but this one was partial move so I do not think it moved the votes too.
I updated the OP, if you have any mockup or suggestion or a different version, or explanation of this request and how you envision it to work, you can add it here
I’m not using Krita at the moment, so I’m not too familiar with the UI and it’s limitations or possibilities. So I leave the creation of mockups to more experienced Krita users.
I can just tell you, that in CSP you can drag pretty much any tool in that window and it will be displayed there. So a simple icon followed by the tools name (like in my screenshot above) might be a good universal solution that would cover the look of many tools at the same time.
drag and drop would solve the
“how to determine which tools will be added” and its simpler.
compare to the add selected tool / brush → since first you need to select it and press the add/+ button . my mockup is based on the layout changer.
OTH. I don’t think krita has utilize this functionality that much.
ATM only the palette squares to fill, and open files are the one i remember that does it.
