Rant! - Finally fed up with Huion Kamvas shenanigans

So a while back I was having issues with my Huion Kamvas Pro 22 (2019) where out of the blue, it intermittently stopped recognising the pen, or then the driver. It would dip in and out of working or being recognised by the PC at will and I tried EVERYTHING to fix it (wiring, drivers, conflicting programmes/drivers/reinstalls/all those other little PC tweak fixes the internet suggest. Nothing worked and in the end I had to buy a brand new one which worked like a dream, (so far….). The issue wasn’t even that it ‘broke’ outright, it would just selectively work which says to me that each component was fine - the driver works, the pen’s not broken, the wires are OK, because they will work, only selectively.

Despite those issues, I still love my Kamvas, so when my son got in to digital art on his PC, I bought him a Huion Kamvas Pro 16 for Christmas 2024. It worked just fine for the first few months. It then sat in a draw for a while, being brought out every few months to do a new drawing (in Krita of course) and all was well. It was barely used. A few days ago I got it all set up for him because he wants to do some animation (still in Krita) and the tablet started doing all the stuff that my old one was doing, working for bit then the pen stops working, then it’s back, then it’s gone again. Unplug it and try again, works just fine, then lagging and cutting out, then stops working altogether. Each time it would either be an issue with the pen, or the driver app not working (but the PC saw it as a second monitor the whole time).

Again, I busted my back trying all the fixes with both hardware, software, drivers, reboots, etc etc ETC. I’ve ordered a new 3-in-1 wire as that does seem to be the front-runner for the culprit as simply unplugging from the tablet and back in again gives a different result each time, and in the times it’s working, if you touch the wire just the tiniest bit it all goes to pot again.

If this new wire doesn’t fix the issue, I’m going to have to buy a whole new tablet and it won’t be a Huion! I’m really starting to believe in the theory that Huion Kamvas products have some kind of switch in them that blows up just outside of the warranty and they don’t last for more than 2 years.

Have other people had this experience with Huion? I love my Kamvas when it’s working but I really can’t trust the brand anymore. Is Wacom the way to go if I need to buy a new tablet?

I just want something that’s reliable and bloomin’ well works when needed. This is the 3rd attempt my son has tried to do some animation and he hasn’t been able to do a single frame because the tablet keeps cutting out randomly. We work on it for hours, think we’ve finally fixed it, then boom - happens again. It’s not very old and hardly used so this is a very poor show from Huion I think considering the price.

Thanks for reading my rant. Just had to get that off my chest.

Aaaaannnnd breathe……:face_exhaling:

If that happens with a connector cable then you might suspect the cable or its connector ends.

But if it happens with two different tablets with two different cables on the same computer then that suggests it’s the connector on the computer that’s the problem.
If it’s USB then you can try a different USB connector on the back/front to see if that fixes it.

Is it two different computers, two different cables and the same problem on each triggered by touching the cable?

Hi Ahab!

No, my Kamvas pro 22 is on a different computer and has a different wire set-up because it’s quite big and bulky. It has 3 separate wires coming out that go to various places on the PC so that first example wasn’t a wiring issue I don’t think. That tablet is working fine currently.

The wire issues (if it is that) is with my son’s Kamvas 16 (on his PC) which has a 3-in-1 wire, where there is only one connector to the tablet which looks like a USB-C and then it splits off into 3 which plug in to the power and PC. We are going to test it out on my PC tomorrow to see if the problems show up on the off-chance that it’s my son’s PC innards which have somehow rejected the tablet. But it worked fine for months previously so I don’t see why it wouldn’t suddenly be a problem.

I have read on some forums that the issues I’m having can be caused by the wire and some people have said replacing it sorted it out for them so I have my fingers crossed.
