Rendering in 4K

Me again!

My animation is coming along great, I thought I was making a short film, but it’s now a movie that will be produced in two parts. Full audio/sound and acting, I can’t wait until you all get to see it.

However I have another issue. The drawing tablet I’m using is XP-Pen Artist 22 Pro, which is pretty old now, and it’s a drawing monitor. The monitor can unfortunately only work in 1080P. I’m wondering if there is a way to render in Krita as 4K, even if your monitor/drawing tablet is only 1080P?

If so, I want to make sure part 2 of the movie is in 4K, if possible.

What do you think @AhabGreybeard any sugestions, or should I prepare to upgrade to something more industry standard.

The rendering quality of Krita (or FFMPEG) doesn’t depend on your screen resolution however it’s correct that you will never see the whole image how it truly looks because of the physical limitations of the device.

Additionally, when rendering an animation, not all codecs support such high resolution, which has to be considered too.

What @Takiro said.

Also, I assume that your canvas size is 4K. You haven’t shown the status bar on your screenshot.

For rendering at that image/video size, you’ll probably need the ‘Full’ ffmpeg build as produced by Gyan (assuming you’re using Windows):

The link for the latest formal Full release is (at the moment for version 8.0.1):
https://www.gyan.dev/ffmpeg/builds/ffmpeg-release-full.7z

As I understand it, the Full build has codecs that can handle large video image sizes but it has non-GPLv3 content.
The Essentials build has GPLv3 compatible content but can’t handle video image sizes above a certain resolution. I don’t know the details, I just use the Essentials build for my ‘small’ animations.
I assume that the built-in ffmpeg that is included in krita is equivalent to the Essentials build, for licensing reasons.

Try stuff and see what happens

Thank you for that information!

Okay thank you, I will give a few things a try. !
