Hi - I am a complete novice - just bought an XP-Pen Deco Pro LW and I am new to Krita. Is my tablet supported and how would you recommend I get started - I could not see any info on setting things up. Any help would be much appreciated (including where I should post this question !) Thanks
Hi, I suggest you make a new topic in the Support and Advice category. Maybe input devices section?
You can ask a question there.
However, please keep in mind that there are some universal steps that you should do that are independent from Krita. You bought the device, so you have your user’s manual and the manufacturer’s support page links. Usually the first thing to do is to install the tablet driver for your operating system. Maybe try that and come back for help if you encounter a problem that you can’t figure out.
Hello @edwatson and welcome to the forum ![]()
I’ve moved your post and the reply by @YRH to a new topic in the appropriate category.
Which operating system are you using?
Which version of krita are you using and where did you get it from?
Have you installed the XP-Pen drivers for your tablet?
Try using it to paint with the Basic-2 Opacity brush preset and notice if varying the pressure give varying opacity of the painted stroke.
Similarly, try the Basic-5 Size brush preset and note if varying pressure gives varying size of the painted stroke.
If not, people on the forum can help you to progress with any problems.
If you try to use Krita with a device that uses iOS as its operating system, it won’t work, because Apple has built the hurdles so high that Krita won’t get into the store. And this despite the fact that Krita would work with iOS as far as I know, there have even been a few tests in this regard, but so there is no official version for iOS (and the unofficial ones were apparently just developer test versions, as a proof of concept so to speak) if I remember correctly.
You would need a device with ChromeOS, macOS, Linux, Windows, Android (where Krita has Beta status), in order to use Krita with it.
It has to do with Krita’s license and something the freaks in Cupertino don’t like about Free and Open Source Software, in my simple terms you could say: Apple believes that you have to pay for (good) software, so the price Apple charges to get into the store is so expensive that Krita would have to be sold at horrendous prices just to not go broke on Apple’s entry fee.
It is a situation where you have to say:
“Thank you, Apple, you are once again standing in the way of those who have set up a project out of idealism and the firm conviction that everyone should (be able to) have access to excellent software, regardless of their income. But just because they are not prepared to go down the path of exclusion, isolation, skimming off as much customer data as possible (in order to market this too) and inflated prices, Apple is deliberately creating insurmountable boundaries without need.”

Thank you @AhabGreybeard
Thank you @YRH and @Michelist. Apologies for a) posting in the wrong place and b) for saying iOS when it’s MacOS (this confirms how non-technical I am).
I did download drivers and I think they are the latest although I found the process a little non-intuative. I do not find the XP Pen site very helpful (probably my ignorance).
I will try the advice you have given me (Basic-2 Opacity brush etc.) in the next day or two when I get time. I will also look at this category in more detail.
Thank you all for helping me - Ed
The internet can be your (complicated and confusing) friend:
Fantastic - many thanks. The first link / video should be a great help when I get some time. Mine is a later model but I expect it will be very similar.
MANY thanks AhabGreybeard - Ed
