I think you are mixing the terms speed paint and time lapse .
A speed paint is when you paint as fast as you can to finish a work in a set amount of time e.g. not taking longer than two hours. A time lapse is a recording of something that is sped up by a certain amount so it shows the process in less time than it actually took.
Of course you can have a time lapse of a speed paint too.
Oh, ok. It’s just on YouTube these are referred to as speedpaints. Thanks, though!

They are probably time lapsed videos of speed paintings (or use the wrong terminology).
Both are very different things that can’t be used interchangeably (but in combination)
Speed painting is an artistic technique where the artist has a limited time to finish the work. The time can vary, usually a duration is set from several minutes to a few hours. Unlike sketches, speed paintings may be considered "finished" after the time limit is up.
Speed painting is particularly common among digital media artists, because digital painting mediums allow for a work to circumvent drying times of traditional media. Digital media artists primarily use speed painting to practice wor...
Time-lapse photography is a technique in which the frequency at which film frames are captured (the frame rate) is much lower than the frequency used to view the sequence. When played at normal speed, time appears to be moving faster and thus lapsing. For example, an image of a scene may be captured at 1 frame per second but then played back at 30 frames per second; the result is an apparent 30 times speed increase. Similarly, film can also be played at a much lower rate than at which it was capt...
