Im trying to edit the forrest exr from blender. The original file is about 500kb. Exporting it as an exr from krita the size changes to about 3mb without even editing anything. Is there a way to export a smaller file size?
Hello and welcome to the forum ![]()
Which version of krita are you using and which operating system?
What is the ‘forrest exr’ from blender?
Can you make it available using a link to a file sharing service or website?
I believe they mean one of the lookdev environment materials that comes with Blender, it’s using DWAB compression.
High res version here:
OpenEXR files can use either lossy or lossless compression. Looks like Krita only support exporting in a lossless one (Zip).
You can convert the EXR from Krita with another software that support DWAA/DWAB export. (Natron or Blender will work that I know of.)
Image quality will decrease ever so slightly every time you export with lossy encoding.
A better lossy format that supports high bit-depth might be JPEG-XL but it’s not supported in Blender if you want to re-import it there.
It might also be a question of bitdepth. OpenEXR supports 16-bit half-float and 32-bit float - the latter would be much larger than the former.
