Attention! You should probably not read this if you juste ate, or if you’re about to eat… (Actually, should you read this at all? 
Hmmm)
So, one of the thoughts that came to my mind is the food brands who make ads around being a food for breaks. Around here, I remember 2 in particular, one being a brand of chocolate-flavored bars, the other being a brand of soup… And for 1 second, my sick mind thought about illustrating a super break by having someone dip a chocolate bar into a soup…
Yeah, I’m probably not gonna do that, my stomach won’t allow it!

I figured I’d try something a bit different for this month’s entry. Being a Whimsicalian sure is a lot of hard work, so it seems nice to take breaks every once in a while.
I wanted to make a piece where some of my characters have stepped out of Krita and having a pizza break with each other. If you want me to paint over the live background or keep it as is, please let me know.

It’s hard work being a flamingo.
Ya know, posing for photos, eating all the fish, I mean, all the stuff @Michelist pointed out below, hanging out in Aruba. Sometimes, you just need to get away from it all, to stand on one leg, and to take a quick break.

Cool picture! At a first glance, as I was scrolling down to see the full picture, my impression was to see a broiler … … and then came the leg. 
By the way, Flamingos don’t eat fish, they behave like the large baleen whales that strain the water for krill. And just like that, flamingos also filter out tiny shrimp and crustaceans - as well as probably anything else of that size that their beak comb traps - when they squeeze out the water they’ve taken in along with the animals.

I’m planning on a whole scene around this guy with a few flamingo friends, waves, rocks, etc. But ya. I do like the simple background and whitespace look. I’ll do the rest on separate layers so I can preserve this and decide later what the final project will be.

It looks like you may have used a photo in your final image. Let me know if I misinterpreted, and if so, then just disregard the rest of this…
@Lynx3d - Your call… is photobashing ok for this month’s challenge?
If not, then maybe you could draw the background with the screen and speakers rather than using an actual photo, MisterOutcast?

This time I’m going with a very simple scenario, but want to experiment with a more elaborate planning process.
The scenario: A person has just come home after a stressful day in rainy weather, dropped everything they had on them randomly on the floor, and now enjoys a relaxing bath with a hot cup of cocoa. Shown from a very low angle, nearly on the floor, so no nudity is shown and it stays within forum guidelines.
Step 1: Spread shoes and clothes on the floor. Made a photo in the intended angle. Used a golden ratio to place the person in a rough sketch.
Step 2: Recreated the entire scene in Blender, to be able to play with placement of things. It’s been almost two years when I last touched blender, and even back than I only did the Donut-tutorial, which is basically the standard Blender tutorial which touches many aspects shortly. With a video tutorial for the shoes it was surprisingly quick to get back into it.

It’s true, the entire image has to be hand drawn. Photo bashing or image tracing is allowed only when that technique is part of the challenge.

Yes as sooz says, I didn’t specify any special painting rules for this month, so no photobashing, no tracing or paint-over.
Although, I wouldn’t even mind some basic contour tracing if the reference (photo, 3d rendering etc.) was actually made by you for this specific artwork rather than using some stock image(s).
But you still have to paint it in a distinct style rather than just trying to replicate the original.
AFAIK many anime backgrounds are made like that, it’s definitely an art form to me.
That would’ve been a nice optional challenge actually, transforming something you created in a different type of media into (part of) your Krita painting…

My WIP for this month’s challenge. I’ve only half finished the sketching…
I took a while to think of an idea, but eventually settled on the idea of sleep. Because what could be a better way to relax other than taking a nap?

Ah! I’m having so much fun! I got around 5 different thumbnail ideas until I fell in love with this one. And then I changed the bear designs a couple times. Its a mom and baby black bear taking a nap after munching on a lot of honeycomb and blackberries. I really love alliteration, so it’s title is going to be “bed of blackberries, black bears, and bumblebees”. I’m also taking the time this month to learn the new text features with 5.3. Going to keep working on this to add the trees, beehives, black berries, and then fix those mouth smears.
Confession: I’ve been using Krita for about ~4 years as a hobby… I just finally downloaded brush bundles for the first time. I was missing out!!! 
SK2 bundle is amazing. Utterly blown away with how quickly I could I lay down some values.
Artists I'm referencing
Louie Zong - Has great illustrations from “We Bare Bears”, I adore his color and textures. Hoping to emulate.
Alex Colville - I remember hearing that his work looked like older video game graphics and it is uncanny how a few pieces totally do. Anyway, while looking at those I saw he did a cat portrait and I just love that the canvas was a circle. So now mine is too 
Dave on Twitter (Their profile does include NSFW art please use caution) - Oh my goodness just the fattest squishiest most appealing shapes, they also had a super sweet border that I assume was inspired by quilts so I decided to take that and run with it as well. Very “cabin on the lake”, I hope I add more elements to my work like that.

For my first idea, I’m thinking of how nurses on the night shift take breaks when-ever and where-ever they can. Sometimes it’s a much needed emotional break from a harrowing situation in the emergency room. So that’s the emotional tone I’m trying to set with the background lighting in this hospital ward.
