Shortcut keys help

Hi,
I’m trying to map shortcuts to the animation section.
The default shortcut Ive always used in Maya for play and stop is Alt+v and jump to the next keyframe forward and back is <,>. both are not working. Alt+v is mapped to the VIEW drop-down list in the top menu even though it says its mapped to the animation play button.
Next keyframe forward and back is <,>. dont do anything.
I can map the Play to Alt+c but not Alt+v.
Is there a reason I can’t map these shortcuts to those operations?

Cheers

That’s a Windows system level behaviour but there are workarounds.

There was a Feature Request to stop this happening:
A way to disable/override Windows default Alt menu command please 🙏

That contains two possible workarounds:

(Also read the two replies after that.)

and this workaround:

ok thanks for that. It works, but I’m not sure how to get to run each time I start Krita.
Also, I cant seem to assign any key to Jump to Next Keyframe?

@Celes may be able to give advice about that.

Do you mean the Next Keyframe keyboard shortcut?
Any assignment I try for that doesn’t work.
I’ve always used the left/right cursor keys but they’re configured as that in the Canvas Inputs under the Switch Time group.

Yes I wonder why they dont work?

I’ve just realised: It’s ‘Next Keyframe’, not ‘Next Frame’. You need to have a layer selected that has keyframes in it.
When it does go to the next keyframe, the Animation Timeline docker slider is not moved so you then have to move that to look for the newly selected next keyframe if it’s a long way along the timeline.

Still not working for me. My jump to keyframe buttons either side of the play button arent working?

Another question: is there a way to reverse the animation curves display?
eg. It displays the Y green curve upside down so the end of the curve angling up represents the down translation of the layer.

If they’re not working then there is something wrong and that might explain why you can’t make working keyboard shortcuts for them.
Are you sure you’ve selected a layer that has keyframes in it?

Forward should go to the next frame and Skip Forward should go to the next keyframe. Similarly for the two Back buttons on the left side.

Strangely, If I use any of those buttons, the cursor arrow left/right keys then no longer work to move to the next/previous frame until I click somewhere away from that line of buttons.

I don’t know of any way to reverse the direction of any animation curve.
They are numerical and so it’s an unfortunate fact that ‘up’ on the Y position curve represents ‘down’ on the canvas. You just have to get used to it.

Thanks. Yer I have tried selecting everything while hitting those buttons or shortcut keys I’ve assigned, but still nothing. Maybe I broke them by assigning other keys to it? I’ll keep trying.

Its so weird having it run opposite like that, I’m struggling to get my head around it coming from other animation apps. Doesn’t make sense to be like that.

Thanks for your help.

I’ve been summoned! :man_mage:

The simplest way to enable it on startup is to use a plugin. I went ahead and created one: GitHub - Cellosia/krita-unbind-alt-shortcuts: A minimal extension to unbind main menu Alt shortcuts

You sir are an absolute legend.
Big thanks to ya.
