'Show and Tell' Pressure Reporting Brush Preset (includes a challenge)

Introduction:
Over the years, there have been many support topics where there were problems with pressure signals and confusion about what the pressure signal is and what happens to it inside krita.
I won’t go into the details about the pressure signal origins and the signal pathway and the modifications that can happen to it before it gets to the brush presets. Someone else can do that.

I’ve made a brush preset that tells you the pressure signal that a brush preset is being given to work with.
I believe this could be useful for checking if a valid and correct pressure value is being sent to the brush presets after its complicated path from your fingers, via the stylus+tablet and then through krita.
It could also be useful for checking if your hand/fingers are capable of controlling pressure during a painted stroke. See the ‘Challenge’ section later in this topic.

About the Brush Preset and Brushtip:
I haven’t bothered to make a .bundle file for just one preset. You need the brush preset .kpp file and the .gih brushtip file that has a set of twenty-one numerical images that are controlled by the pressure signal that is being given to the brush preset. These images result in on-canvas pressure reporting to a resolution of 5% and an accuracy of +/- 2.5%

Downloading the Preset and Brushtip:
Here is the Brush Preset, called Pressure-0-100_5.kpp:

It’s a .kpp file. If you get a .png file then your browser is lying to you and has changed the file extension. (This has been discussed and explained many times before on the forum.)
Just change the file extension to .kpp and carry on.

Here is the Brushtip, called Pressure-0-100_5.gih:

For interest, and if you want to change the font or even make more pressure reporting levels, here is the .kra file, called Pressure-Values-0-100_5.kra:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LGwMddTDb-wXDthPuLgMgIeiQFOUCaOO/view?usp=sharing

Getting them into krita:
Do Settings → Manage Resources → Import Resources, then select the .kpp file and the .gih file, press Open in the file chooser window then press Close in the Manage Resources window.
That will get them into krita and you should see the ‘Pressure-0-100 5’ (no underscore!) preset in the brush presets docker.

Using the brush preset:
Just paint a stroke with it. It will print the pressure value it sees along the stroke. That should range from ‘0’ to ‘100’ in steps of 5. (I didn’t think there was any point in having a ‘%’ character.)
I suggest you start with a canvas size of 1000 x 1000 and then vary the brush size and spacing to suit your personal taste.

THE CHALLENGE:
Paint a continuous stroke, meandering around the canvas with a pressure starting at 0 that increases gradually through all values, at intervals of 5, all the way up to 100 with no ‘jump overs’ and no ‘fall backs’. Can you do that? I can’t:

I have old stiff fingers and I also have an Input Pressure Global Curve that looks like this:

That gives me better control at the low end and lets me go up to maximum pressure signal with less hand/finger stress. It also compresses the response in the middle so that’s my excuse.

That’s so useful! I was jumping from 0 to 50 with nothing in between. Now I’ve been able to get all the pressure levels the way it should be. Thank you so much.

That’s a brilliant idea, well done!

Thank you Sooz, I’m glad it was useful for you. My original idea for a topic title was, ‘Train Your Hand with a Pressure Reporting Brush Preset’. I should have gone with that
So, will you upload a screenshot showing your new abilities?

@AhabGreybeard, IMO this is pure genius :face_without_mouth:

I did it! If you don’t count the fall off at the end, anyway.

I worked on a painting last night for a couple of hours after adjusting the global pressure from my tests with your brush and man it made my painting so much easier – especially in the areas where I wanted to do soft work.

@AhabGreybeard
Thanks a frixxin’ ton, Mr. Ahab! This is honestly among one of the most innovative things around the usage of brushes exept for painting, I’ve seen in quite a while. Proper!
So, Absolutely awesome stuff and super intersting (useful) aswell..

Still, I haven’t had the chance to take a closer look at it in action, but downloaded all the piece’s, or perhaps components..

and will come back with my own test results when i have given it a run…but that’ll have to wait until later this week. My hands are pretty full of other things at the moment, that needs durect ctions… but this looks really good. I like it a lot mr Graybeard!

Great work, man!

That is so super cute and innovative. Even the file name is hilarious.
