Some brushes don't show up

※I use a translator

I have updated to version Krita5, but some brushes are not showing up.
I also tried initializing the software, but no luck…

OS: win10

Welcome back, we haven’t seen you here in a while, mop!

You updated from one of the Krita 5 Alpha or Beta versions, right? Because Krita 4 could not use MyPaint presets. Where did you get these presets from, are they taken from MyPaint in Krita or are they from @fizzyflower’s recently released “ULTIMATE MyPaint Brush Collection”?

Michelist

I’m back, Michelist.
Thanks for your reply.:bowing_woman:

I downloaded Krita5 from the official website. (Windows Installer 64-bit)

When I started Krita, the tags were already there.
I didn’t get the presets by myself.

With a freshly installed 5.0.0 on Windows 10, I don’t have those tags.
Maybe they were inherited from an older installation?

That’s interesting! Okay, so Krita 5 now also has a MyPaint brush engine and can use MyPaint presets from a certain build number of the original MyPaint brush engine. Some of these MyPaint presets are shipped with Krita 5 and should be displayed on your screen.
I have just made a clean installation of Krita 5 on Windows and Linux to check these tags, and I don’t have these tags on either system. Since you have them on your system, I assume you have used 5 alpha or beta versions before and have created these tags before, is that correct? Or had you tried @fizzyflower’s ULTIMATE MyPaint Brush Collection before?

Michelist

Addendum: Who just sees that @AhabGreybeard was once again faster
In the future, I should drink my coffee faster.

That’s a correct, I have used the beta version of Krita5! :astonished:(Probably around November?)
But even then the tags were already there, and the brushes were not shown in the tags.

I’m not sure if I remember, but I may have downloaded the “ULTIMATEMyPaint Brush Collection”.

Then I guess I need to completely erase Krita’s information from my PC and install it again…

Stop! Reinstallation does NOT solve this!
Do you have self created resources? Something like presets, brush tips, et cetera?

Michelist

No? Okay😲

I have never made a brush or brush tip before.:raising_hand_woman:

If you don’t have any self-created resources and only use downloaded presets, bundles, patterns, and so on, then you could brutally delete the entire resource folder. Then when you restart Krita it would recreate all the stock resources, and downloaded ones you would have to reinstall normally.

Or more subtly in the paintoppresets folder, delete all files ending in “*.TAG” and in the resource folder itself, delete the resource database “resourcecache.sqlite” as well.
This should get rid of those tags. You would then also discover a couple of the MyPaint brush presets mentioned in the “paintoppresets” folder. Then Krita would rebuild the database on restart and your custom resources would be preserved.

All this is best done with the file manager when Krita is not running. (I have at least never deleted the resource folder or database from running Krita, might work too. (I’ll have to test it sometime!))
If you don’t know where your resources-folder is, then please wait until someone can tell you. Sorry, I’m in a hurry at the moment.

Michelist

I’m back in about 30 minutes for about an hour, and then again absent for round about two hours. I have a few things to do.

On Windows 10, your resources folder is:
C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Roaming\krita

It would be a good idea to make a backup copy for later restoration in case anything goes wrong.

Oops, thanks @AhabGreybeard!

I totally forgot to mention the backup, and I didn’t have time for the path earlier because the geriatric nurse was already standing next to the bed like the general in front of the new recruits, and I was still writing. :joy:

Try renaming “resourcecache.sqlite” file in your krita resource folder and see if it makes a difference or not.

For example re-name “resourcecache.sqlite”“resourcecache1.sqlite” . When Krita is restarted, it will automatically regenerate a new resourcecache.sqlite file. See if the brushes appear afterwards. I think I remember this happening to me before when I added new mypaint brushes

If it doesn’t work, delete the newly generated “resourcecache.sqlite” file. And rename “resourcecache1.sqlite”"resourcecache.sqlite"

Thanks for all the advice, you’ve all been busy!:sob:

I found out that “it’s not the tags & brushes originally included in Krita5”, so I deleted the resources folder and reinstalled.
The tags were gone, so that was a success !!:smiling_face_with_three_hearts::tada:
I also reinstalled the bundle I had been using. Now I’m comfortable.

I’m not trying to use MyPaint brushes in Krita 5, so problem solved! Thank you so much for your help.:bowing_woman:

@fizzyflower
Thanks for the advice! I’ve already solved the problem and can’t try this anymore. I’ll try it again if the problem occurs again.:ok_hand:

Thank you very much for your advice, and thank you very much for your patience with my poor English.
If I ever need help again, please lend me your wisdom ! :raised_hands:
