I am an artist, and I am still learning to use Krita. I have some suggestions that I hope to see in future updates of Krita involving the art program itself. There are some features I hope are added or changed and here are my suggestions so it’ll make my drawing experience easier same goes for other artists.
I wish there an option to change the color of a sketch from the layer options. This will make sketching easier for me.
I wish you can actually draw lineart in vector layers. You can’t draw using the normal brush tool and make freehand vector lineart drawings, this would make lineart so much easier.
I hope there are some changes for the Overview tab in Krita, I find the rotation button to be too small and there is no button to reset the rotation in an instant, I hope these changes are made if you don’t want to use shortcut keys.
For the toolbox tab, my only complaint is why isn’t there a button to erase the whole drawing? I think the option to clear a layer fully is also very important.
I use a drawing tablet, and I wish when you configure Krita, you can change the commands when using tools when you use the buttons for your drawing tablet. I don’t want to make changes by using my own tablet settings since I think it’s more comfortable to make these changes in the program itself, I hope i’m making sense.
I personally don’t use shortcut keys as I prefer to press the buttons from my drawing tablet and tablet pen, this is why I am asking for some of these changes. I hope the developers understand my issues and I try my best to explain the little complaints im having for my first impressions of the program.
By the way I came here from Clip Studio Paint, Im used to using Clip Studio Paint so there are some features Krita doesn’t have that I wish they will change for the future. I am just looking for drawing program alternatives and Krita is my first choice when I want to move here.
There were tests for this but I don’t know why it wasn’t added to the end.
This is something that I think is being considered in the future.
I think this has already been discussed, but you can add various options to the toolbars, just go to Preferences and configure the toolbars.
Are you talking about configuring the shortcuts? It can be done in Preferences → Configure Krita, you will see in the options on the left a section that leads to the options to configure the keyboard shortcuts.
No problem you can ask, I used Clip Studio for work so I understand that moving to other software can be difficult, so don’t hesitate to ask your questions, at least I and others will be able to help you.
The way i like to do is to set a color overlay layer style though setting it up takes a few clicks. but you can quickly set it on and off.
on the toolbox you wont get these options, the toolbox only contains the tools. you may be able to set clear layer on the toolbar. settings>configure toolbar
You can also double-click on the circle to reset rotation.
Edit: Shift+Space+mouse drag on canvas can do continuous rotation.
Right-click popup-palette big ring outward can also do rotation, click on the top center circle and it will reset rotation.
With a sketch or line art layer, you can use the HSV Adjustment Filter (Ctrl+U) by checking “Colorize” and setting “Lightness” to 50. Now you can use the “Hue” slider to change the colors.
It’s not actually 100% true. You just need to use Freehand Path Tool instead of Freehand Brush Tool. (Or Calligraphy Tool, but it’s very unfinished, Freehand Path Tool at least works as expected within the limitations).
It only allows for lines of the same thickness, but:
you can freehand it on vector layers
it doesn’t create too many nodes when you use Precision “Curve” (the most useful)
you can edit the nodes like usual using the Select Shapes Tool and Edit Shapes Tool (mouse cursor icon and the little mouse icon with a path, in the first section of Toolbox).
I wonder if I could make this tool adhere to assistants at some point…
Also on my assistants project todo list there is an item “convert vector shapes to assistants”, but it needs to wait some more time, at least until I create longer Bezier curves (“Vari-line” how it is called in the feature request here on KA).
