I made an effects animation of some magical glitter particles here.
Originally, I did this as a grayscale animation, and applied a gradient map to all frames in order to get more depth in the colors by providing a range of hues.
Hello and welcome to the forum ![]()
I’ve been watching your animation at full screen size and it’s mesmerising ![]()
If you have time, would you mind explaining how you did the glitter/sparkle effect of the tiny dots?
(My guess is animated transparency mask on a glittering full layer image.)
My apologies for the delay - thanks for asking! I initially drew the general shape of the trails (although your idea of using a transparency mask would have probably been more efficient, now that you mention it) on a separate layer in a solid color. I selected this and filled it in using the Starfield texture brush that comes with Krita by default (specifically in the Krita 4 assets, if I remember correctly). I did this in multiple passes, first just filling in the general area for all of the frames, then coming back later to add the higher density particles that appear to fall. Let me know if there’s more I can say to clarify!
I mean this in only the best way— it kind of looks like one of those old Disney movies from the late 1900s-early 2000s, but better. This is obviously more vibrant and sparkly and idk why my brain made that connection, but it did.
Thank you for the explanation
I’m tempted to do a sparkly animation myself now.
Are you thinking about the Tinkerbell trail (of sparkles behind her)?
Yes, as well as the stars. Again, why did my brain make this connection
Memory, association, pattern matching ![]()
Ah, yes, the human brain at its finest: patterns
