Speedpainting for Practice

Reference image from Snowbrains.com

I’d say one of my greatest weakness as an artist is the inability to paint environments and backgrounds. Most of my work never has environments, or if they do they’re very simple and lack variety. I want to be able to do larger landscapes, but for that I have to start with the basics. I thought one good way to practice would be to do a series of speedpaints. This one was 45 minutes.

I admire a lot of the landscape work I’ve seen here and was wondering if anyone had any tips for how they learned to do landscapes and what helped the most? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ^-^

Hello. Nice work. I had doing line art most of my life and also had dificulties to understand painting. My tips are, use larger brushes. Painting is about shapes and light that you can do with few brushstrokes.
