I don’t usually post illustrations here, but I’m proud of this one~
This character is named Amon, and is an ‘android’ in my webcomic, Tamed Rogue. (It’s on hiatus right now tho lol) Before, I tried drawing big backgrounds with digital painting methods, but they took soooo long and weren’t fun at all. So, I decided to use line art for almost everything and I just got done so much faster. I still used painting techniques, but the line art layer really made everything easier.
Here is a bit of the process:
I usually draw Amon brooding, or serious, so it was jarring to draw him with a genuine smile. I was on a call with my friend, and I was sketching this. I asked him what expression he should have, and he said it should be a big grin. I was reluctant, but adding a grin completely changed the composition I was going for in the beginning. Isn’t that interesting? Here’s what Amon usually looks like:
