Stack overflow involved with larger files (Around 1GB and larger)

In version of 5.3+ of Krita, I noticed Krita starts crashing when the memory gets around 1GB and larger. All error messages read as follows:

Error occurred on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 20:32:34.

krita.exe caused a Stack Overflow at location 00007FF9FC87E242 in module Qt5Core.dll.

Sometimes this crash occurs on file opening and sometimes it occurs when changing the visibility of certain layers. I’ve had files from before 5.3 crash and files from 5.3 crash, but both of which work fine when downgrading to 5.2.16.

I’ll also add on I have more than enough memory. My RAM is 48GB and have allocated 32GB for Krita.

Channels to layers
Color space
Comics project management tools

Export layers
Filter manager
Krita photoabsh images
Krita script starter
Last documents docker
Mixer slider docker
Python plugin importer
Quick settings docker
Scripter
Shapes and layers
Ten brushes
Ten scripts

That seems to be all the plugins. I don’t know which are built-in and which I ended up downloading on my own.

I’m not sure which ones are built in either but the reason I asked is because not all plug-in developers have updated their plug-in to work with Krita 5.3.

Now that I think about it, I think Shapes and Layers is one I added to make the Vector system act more like Affinity/Illustrator. If it doesn’t work I’ll just revert to 5.2.16

EDIT:

FIXED! “Shapes and Layers” plugin was the one causing Krita to crash. Removed it then updated to the latest build and files that were previously crashing aren’t any more.
