Stopping S-pen button press from registering as eraser?

Krita version: 5.2.2
Type of device : 2-in-1 laptop
Brand and version of the device: Samsung Galaxy Book4 Pro 360
System: Windows 11

Hello! I’m currently using a Galaxy Book4 Pro with an S-Pen. When I take the tip away from the screen, press the side button, and put it near the screen again, Krita registers it as eraser. Which is annoying, because I’d like to use the button exclusively as a color picker. This doesn’t happen in other software (FireAlpaca), so I guess it’s just a thing with Krita… Is there any way to stop this from happening? Thank you!

Does Krita’s tablet tester indicate that everything else is working well (pressure sensitivity registers as %, stylus signals show)?

And does your interface allow you to program the pen buttons?

Yes, the tablet tester shows everything working OK! (The reason why I could tell it registered as an eraser was because the tablet tester indicated it, so no problems there.)

As for the interface:

If you mean the Krita interface, no. If I go into Configure Krita → Canvas Input Settings and click the pen button (with type Mouse button), there’s no input detected. I coded something in AutoHotKey to have the pen button button press send a mouse middle button press, but if I don’t have the program running, then nothing happens.

If you mean the Windows or Samsung interface, also no… In Bluetooth & devices → Pen & Windows Ink, there’s no option to choose what the shortcut button does. Even though I know there should be, because they have a page on it on Tips… Maybe it’s because I’m using a pen that doesn’t have Bluetooth?

Using AH to map the pen buttons sounds like a terrible workaround for something the pen/tablet driver software should do naturally.

Identifying the pen tip as an eraser is nothing to do with krita.

The ‘identity’ of the tip as stylus or eraser is totally dependent on the driver and the Win 11 OS.

There’s the ‘shortcut’ button at the back end of the pen and the ‘side’ button on the side of the pen. It’s usually the side button that can be configured to make the pen identify as an eraser if it’s pressed and held.

The facilities of your Samsung device may not have been designed to provide that, for some reason.

 I guess this means that either I have to find a way around the drivers or wait for an update…
