Text fade in and fade out not saving (using animation curves to adjust opacity over time)

Hello! I am trying to create a whole animatic in krita, and right now I’m trying to make the text intro. However, after I save in Krita after adjusting the animation opacity curves for my vector text boxes and close Krita, my curves aren’t saved when I reopen the project. Any advice would be helpful!

Hello and welcome to the forum

Which version of krita are you using and which operating system?

What’s happening is that you’ve found a strange bug.
The bug is that vector layers can’t be animated but you can apply opacity keyframes to them during a session and these do appear to work.
They can’t be saved though because vector layers can’t be animated.

You can do the opacity keyframes on a non-animated paint layer and save them with no problem but I think that shouldn’t actually work.
I’ll ping @emmetpdx about that.

So, you’ll need to Convert the vector layer to a paint layer before you apply opacity keyframes to it.
Ideally, you’d also animate it by doing right-click → Create Duplicate Frame in frame-0 of its timeline to make it a true animated layer.

If you have further problems with this, you can upload a full screen screenshot showing the Layers docker and Timeline docker for more discussion.

I’m using the free version of Krita, and it comes up as 5.0.0.

And your advice worked! Thank you so much!

Quick question, though. Why is it ideal to animate them by doing the create duplicate frame method? I did it the way you were suggesting, I’m just curious why that’s the best way and what other ways there might be. But right now I’m just glad that Krita did what I wanted it to do! XD

Have a great day. God bless!

I’m glad it’s now working for you

That’s me being ‘purist’ (or maybe fussy). Opacity keyframes are intended to be incorporated in animated layers.
They also seem to work on a non-animated paint layer and can be Saved in a .kra file with no problem. So, maybe they are intened to work that way?
That’s why I pinged one of the animation developers about this.

Enjoy animating with krita
