The advantage of using the Windows .portable .zip or the Linux appimage is that you can use it independently of any other version you may have (but not at the same time).
After you’ve converted text to path using 5.1.5, you can then Save it and use 5.2.6 to carry on working with it.
That’s because they’re now in a group, fixing a different issue: if the text has multiple colors, previous versions would make it completely single-color, while now, the multi-colored text becomes a group of multiple paths. You will need to ungroup first (shape select tool → rightclick context menu → ungroup).
So, the sequence is now:
Select Shapes Tool → Select the text object
Edit Shapes Tool → right-click → To Path (or use Tool Options docker button)
Select Shapes Tool → right-click → Ungroup then press Return
