Hello! I need help with some problem.
I’m sorry if this is hard to understand (English is not my first language).
So, I’ve been using Krita for 2 years (with the same laptop) without any problem. But, recently after I updated it to the 5.1.5 version, a little while after that, every time I create a new work/canvas or even when I’m in the middle of working/drawing, suddenly the app just keep adding layer and it won’t stop. Sometimes it stop when I press the space bar but after that it’s gonna do the same thing again.
At first, I though it was the laptops/keyboard problem. But, after I check it, it was not. I’ve try to re-install the app a few times, but it wouldn’t work. It keeps repeating the same action again and again every time I create a new work/canvas (even though I haven’t press or do anything yet) or when I open previous work.
What should I do?
(My laptops is on Windows 10, RAM : 4,00 GB, and the system type is 64-bit.)
The default keyboard shortcut for adding a paint layer is Ctrl+P and I doubt that you could be accidentally pressing that.
Is it a paint layer that’s added, with each layer being called Paint Layer 1, Paint Layer 2, etc?
Is this a layer every second, a layer every 5 seconds, 3 layers every second?
Does it ever stop adding a new layer if you continue painting on the canvas?
Does it stop if you put the stylus down away from the tablet or stop moving the mouse?
Are you using a graphics tablet/stylus or a mouse?
If a tablet/stylus, does it do this when you’re only using a mouse?
If a tablet/stylus, which make and model is it?
Do you have any ‘unusual’ peripherals such as a fancy gaming mouse or a joystick controller?
Do you use any keyboard shortcut/mapping utilites or do you run any games on the computer?
Which version of krita were you using before?
Where did you get version 5.1.5 from and how did you install it?
Can you think of anything that was done to the computer in terms of updates of Windows or other apps or drivers or adding any peripherals that may have caused this?
Just to check, does the Insert (Ins) key add a new paint layer? You may have to wait until it’s stopped adding new layers to try that.
For your XP-Pen tablet, check with the XP-Pen website to see if you have the latest driver installed. If you haven’t, uninstall the current driver, restart your PC then download and install the latest driver, following any detailed instructions in the manual, then restart your PC.
In your XP-Pen setup utility, have you created an application profile for krita?
If you have, delete it, close the utility, then open it again and create a new application profile for krita while krita is running. Close the utility then try again.
If you haven’t created an application profile for krita then you should create one, as described above.
Does that fix the problem?
If not, enable the Log Viewer with Settings → Dockers, enable Log Viewer.
At the bottom of the Log Viewer docker are some icons. Hover your cursor over them to see the tooltip for what they do. (You may need to use a mouse for that unless you have very steady hands.)
Using the ‘Configure Logging’ icon, enable all types of logging.
Then press the Clear The Log icon and wait for a few new layers to be made.
You can’t do copy/paste from the Log Viewer so click the Save The Log icon to save it as a .log (text) file.
Then copy paste a few lines from the end of the log to a reply here.
