The program intermittently does not respond to the keyboard

Hotkeys intermittently stop responding. I draw, I use the keyboard - with the help of it I rotate the canvas, increase the pen, switch between tools, but at some point the keyboard does not respond to anything. The problem is not the keyboard, because I work on a laptop and nothing happens on its native keyboard either. Conventionally, I press the spacebar to move the canvas, and the pen just draws, as if it didn’t notice that I pressed the key. I rebooted the laptop, deleted and downloaded the program again from the official site, but the problem is not solved. The laptop is powerful and new, Windows.

This looks like the krita focus bug, which is hard to find a way to fix codewise, according to the dev.

Some workaround I know to make shortcut work again (choose one):

  1. Minimize and maximize krita (press on windows taskbar icon should be faster to minimize/maximize it)
    or
  2. Click on layer docker (click on empty space or turn on/off a layer, not sure)

Interesting as I meet same problem very often since Krita 5.1.1. and nobody answered this when I asked.

This is certainly unpleasant for you at that moment it happens, but it is not done on purpose, you are not overlooked willfully. Because this is a forum where volunteers help in their spare time, it can happen that a request for help is not noticed by the “right forum member”. So, that member who could possibly help is currently indisposed.

As I moderate myself a forum, I can understand this. But it’s quite frustrating : I noticed the problem in three different threads, I made different search on the Web… and I find an eventual solution here.

Well, it may not work for me :slight_smile: I will have a try.

This happens a lot to me now as well, I believe the issue started either in 5.1 or between it and 5.1.1. it usually happens when messing around in the layers docker. I’ll return to the canvas and begin drawing, only to find that all keyboard shortcuts no longer work indefinitely. I’ll then have to purposefully go back into the docker and play with the layers again until it decides to start working.
I haven’t been able to figure out what exactly causes it, as it only happens 3 or so times in a 6 hour session.

Some operation I found to reproduce more easily (at least under KDE):

  1. press alt once, then click in layer docker
    (for example, pick a color with Alt, then click on another layer in layer docker.)
  2. Keyboard shortcut to “Show desktop” or “Switch virtual dsktop”, then restore with keyboard shortcut.

The second one has been reported in bug tracker.

I confirm this : it happens since 5.1 or 5.1.1 version. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one. I thought it was relative to mouse driver or possibly a plugin and became mad because I could not fix it easily.

Mine might be different, it happens without Krita losing window focus. Just canvas → layer docker → canvas and suddenly all shortcuts stop working.
