I’m gimp user and use it mainly for images editing, I rarely do paint stuff…
Krita look very interesting in many points like wrap around mode, transparency mask, etc…
But there is one thing I can put my finger on it, I searched all the web place and still can’t figure out how to modify a selection quickly. That prevent me to completely get rid of Gimp.
For the sake of god how to modifiy my selection (without affecting the content) ??? I just want to increase or decrease it by dragging the corner of it. Also I wouldd like to be able to set manually its size and position: Say I want a 300x800px at x10 y10 position ???
Here is what I have (nothing): https://youtu.be/WZNI1HG4v-E
Yeah, it’s less straight-forward in Krita, but it’s not rocket science either, fortunately If you’re using the latest version, you probably have vector rectangle selections by default. Right-click and select “Edit Selection”. You’ll get on a global selection mask which should be vector (if not, just convert the selection from raster to vector one). Resize. Voila, done. (You can use then any vector tool you want). Come back to the layer of your choice and enjoy having a precise selection
Thanks for the reply, but when I click “edit selection” the “gizmo/widget” for resizing are not around my selection but around the entire image which is quite useless… Is there an other setting somewhere else that can help ?
What Wolthera is suggesting is that you by mistake selected everything except for the are you wanted to have selected. To see what is selected and what is not, the mask preview mode is better than ants preview mode - to switch modes, click on the little circle in a square icon in the left bottom corner of Krita window. White areas are those selected, pink/red areas are those outside of the selection.
When using selection tools, check Tool Options to make sure that you’re using the correct selecting mode: usually you need “Replace” (ignores any selection that was there before and creates a new selection).
With the correct selection, it should be exactly as you expect it - with handles tightly clinging to the selection borders (* in case you have rectangular selection on an opaque layer ).
I clicked the wrong button! In fact I clicked the button where the tooltip says “transform a layer OR a selection”. What I wanted to do.
But that’s not the right button instead I need to click on “Select shapes Tool”
So I’m seeing the features what you are saying but I’m not seeing how to usefully use them.
A likely scenario is I wanted to delete part of something. The area to be taken away is straight vertical or horizontal so I plan to just select the area I want and then hit the delete key and it’s gone.
But what I did was make the box selection too big or small by a few pixels and I want to resize it and then get going with other things. So I right mouse click the selection and pick “Edit Selection” - sounds good. I notice that the display mode has changed from ant to mask ( I didn’t ask for that but OK) but there are control points to change the selection in any way I want. So I change it but then what do I do? I assume this is a transform so I hit enter and all the control points go except for the one that allows you to curve the corners. But what do I do now? I can’t get back to ants display mode and I can’t hit the delete key to do that original deletion that was the whole point of the original selection. What am I missing in this procedure?
I hate to be critical, I work with software too and know how hard it is to get UI stuff working.
