Transparent Save Issue

I have been using Krita for years and have never had an issue with saving transparent images until fall 2023. Now, when I try to save them, it automatically adds a “transparent color,” and there doesn’t seem to be any way for me to remove this.

For the record, my file does not have a background and fully displays as transparent (with the grid background) when viewed as a canvas within Krita. This problem only appears when exporting. I know to save the file as a PNG, and I have tried both the “save as” and “export” options (and it does the Transparent Color thing for both).

This is what it looks like. When I click on the “Transparent Color” box, it allows me to change the color, but not get rid of it. I have tried to create different files and save those as transparent, and it still does this, so it is not an issue of a corrupted file.

There is no “preserve transparency” box for me to click.

TLDR: Whenever I try to save as or export a transparent PNG, it adds a background color, but I want my file to be transparent.

Any answers and/or tips would be appreciated.

Can you try to export the image again as a png file but this time put a checkmark in “store alpha channel” (refer to your screenshot for the location of this option).

You’re a genius. That was such a simple fix, no idea why I didn’t figure that out. Thank you! (It worked.)
