Some of you probably seen it already - my mind was so much on krita UI rework, that I kind of forgot this place is also for posting artworks, and didn’t upload it here
Here are my trees illustrations - I tried to make them look consistent in style and colors, like the assets for some imaginary game. I was influenced a bit by the style of trees in Ori game series.
And last of all, I even animated one of those in blender. Hope it’s ok to post this blender part as some kind of bonus here (as vast majority of work was done in krita of course)
Yes. I divided all the parts of the tree in krita into different layers, each starting with a number 1,2,3 etc. Then exported all the active layers with “export layers” script available in krita by default. Then in blender I had to activate a plugin “import images as planes” in which I imported all of the exported layers as shadeless planes with small Z+ offset. Then I had to manually cut those planes with knife and set parents properly. Then it’s the usual blender 3D animation.
I’ve just finished my first tutorial on the subject. It shows how to easily export the layers from krita and import them to blender. It also covers the absolute basics of keyframe animation in blender.
Hope you’ll find it useful
That reminds me, there’s an addon for Blender called Coatool. It allows you to edit sprites with simple rigging, and deformated meshes.
There is no export plugin for krita unfortunately, and I don’t know if it still works on Blender 2.8.
I know it’s not really Krita related, but anyway, here’s the link to the addon if that can help : Cut Out Animation Tools
These all look great. Foliage is definitely one of those areas I still struggle with to find a good balance between keeping things loose and impressionistic and still getting a good bit of detail and interest in there without spending tons of time. You seem to have nailed it with these.
Thank you! Foliage is hard - lots of very strong changes in both hue and lightness which results from some crazy light interactions. But my new watercolor brush did the job here
Nice work. Great style. One comment: the animation is too vertical. That is, tree tunks are inelastic up ane down. Wind blows branches more laft and rights, with the trunk as a fulcrum.
Thanks! The animation was supposed only to have some random motion as the tree itself is rather stylized too, but applying logic there is always beneficial for the overall look, so yeah - thanks for the tip
