Hello, I’m having trouble with the Steam version.
When I try to open a file .kra by double clicking it, it says to choose a program to use to open the file with but even when I choose Krita the file still doesn’t open. When I try to do the exact same thing with the free website version it works perfectly fine.
Any advice?
Can you please make sure the same version is used in both cases? Go to Help -> About Krita in both and compare.
yes, both kritas are the same version
be sure to choose “:\Program files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Krita\krita\bin\Krita.exe” when asked. but be aware that steam isn’t recording your time when you start krita this way.
at that point i might as well use the one i got from the website. thank you for your time!
I would just suggest opening Krita by Steam and choosing the document from Recent or searching for it in the Open folder. But of course, that’s depending on your needs 
I’m afraid it might be a limitation of Steam, but maybe it is possible to fix that. Maybe @emmetpdx would know.
