Unexpected Krita Performance issues

Hello
Ive been having some performance issues such as Delay while switching layers, Changing brush and sometimes the more i work on a project, the worse the delay gets, different input starts to lag, brushes lag as well, etc.

These seem to be some sort of performance issue but Ive tried to check for some solutions such as changing the RAM usage, checking how much memory krita uses in Task Manager, some brush settings etc but to no avail, i havent tried methods like re installing or resetting krita configs because i thought there could be some genuine issue that i might have been overlooking.
Also ive been using krita for a couple years, these issues that ive been encountering are a first for me… if there is any more information i can provide then pls let me know,

thank u in advance

Hi @HarshulD - Welcome to the forum.

One thing you can check is the memory usage in the document itself. The next time you encounter these delays, hover over the dimensions on the bottom status bar to open the popup. Look at the memory usage. If the memory usage goes too high, your device will begin to swap memory which will slow things down considerably.

Hey @sooz thank you for replying!
I checked the memory usage in a document and the usage seems fine i think? but the small delay that happens whenever i switch layers or switch brushes seems to have become a common thing that occurs in any and all type of new file i create/open, so that specific problem might not be related to performance itself?

If you are using Windows try switching from Windows Ink to InkTab (or vice-versa).
You can also try disabling the Canvas Hardware Acceleration to rule out a GPU related problem.

Is this from a document where you were experiencing delays and lagging? I’m asking because I don’t see anything unusual in here. Your comment about the problem getting worse during longer periods of use made me think we’d see some swapping taking place but this says no.

You can try updating your tablet driver and then ensuring that both Krita and your tablet have the same Input API setting (both using Windows Ink or both not using Windows Ink).
