Hi all. Hope you are keeping well. I’m trying to figure out how to use a downloaded png of a grunge texture to use over and image and then use the texture to erase parts of that image to give a vintage destressed look. The only video I’ve found is someone using Adobe (here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdiU-8fNB44) but not a Krita video. I’ve not had any luck with searching how to do it. I’m confident Krita can do it but just need some guidance. Would appreciate anyone’s input
Several ways could work depending on the texture. You could put the texture on a layer above the image and set the blending mode to erase or create a transparency mask from the the texture.
Thank you very much for your input, Takiro. I’ve tried the transparency mask but cannot seem to get it to work. I’m very much a rookie when it comes to Krita. Any chance you could walk me through it step by step? It would be really appreciated.
When you open the context menu for the layer that has the texture, there should be an option to convert it to a transparency mask somewhere, if I remember correctly.
Hello @ManKrita and welcome to the forum
Right-click → Convert → Convert to Transparency Mask
With that technique and the method of putting the texture with Erase blending mode over the main image, you’d probably need to to use a Levels Adjust filter on the texture to get a suitable effect: Filter → Adjust → Levels
That grunge texture is white on transparent and needs to be white on black for maximum flexibility of filtering adjustment.
Thank you very much for your help. I can see how it is done. Really appreciate the support
