Hi,
What is the most recent version that will work with MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra) ?
I looked in the ‘old downloads’ but it just gives version numbers and no compatability info.

In this topic it was said it could be 5.2.2:
Since I don’t know the exact answer, you have to find it out via trial and error if the 5.2.2 does not work. The next you should then try is the 5.1.5, the 5.1.0 and then the 5.0.5 and the 5.0.0 as the last option from the version 5.x.x.

Thanks Michelist, appreciate the quick reply.
5.5.2 didn’t seem to work - it looked like it would and loaded into my applications ok, but when I tried to start it I got a message “Krita application is damaged - remove to trash” 
So I’ll work back through the other versions you mentioned. I’ll let you know which works.
That is a known “error” deliberately created by those freaks in Cupertino, they dislike users installing software that’s not coming out of their store.
But if you follow one of the following videos, you’ll be able to make it working:
