Want to record, OBS show only white

Recording the whole display works fine, but when only krita window is selected. It shows only. . . white. What do you think?

I usually record the whole screen instead of Window Capture when I want to have the user interface in a video. Fullscreen Krita (Ctrl + Shift + F) and that might work nicely for you.

Also, Krita now has a recorder which records only the drawing and your brush work. It works very nicely for me! If you only want a timelapse of your drawing and do not intend to show the user interface or stream, this might be the best option

looks like that’s the only way, will do it

Only way I would not say.

I made an option for the tela plugin to make it easier to record with OBS after I tested how badly recorder performed.

OBS is just so many times better than the recorder that is slow not to mention resource hungry on your hard drive on an insane amount.

Tela reacts by how large your document is and how fast you set the refresh rate. So bigger documents need more speed to compute from your computer.

You’re comparing potatoes and carrots: OBS and Krita’s recorders don’t have the same goal, and doesn’t produce the same type of results… :man_shrugging:

If comparison have to be made, it’s more a functional compiration: for what you need to record?

If you want to record only the canvas without any distraction (zoom, pan, rotation), just to have drawing/painting progress during hours and hours (or days), Krita’s recorder is what you need

If you want to record everything and especially user interface to let watcher being able to understand your process -used tool, layers, …- a recorder like OBS is a right choice

I totally disagree. OBS wins in both cases.

The only thing the docker recorder really does better is changing frame only when there is a change within krita so there is no down time. But compared to the amount of frames you loose in the process there is no actual win as there is nothing much to edit on a video editor time wise.

That’s your point of view, not mine.
And probably not the point of view of developer who implemented the functionality for which idea was to record canvas and canvas only, whatever the zoom, pan, rotation are.

But I don’t want to fight to determinate what’s the best.

I’m tired of comparison I can see on KA were everyone think to have a better point of view than other, about this or that, CPU, memory, time number seconds this need compared to that, how functions are implemented or which software have a more shiny ui than other.

The best tools are the one that perfectly fit your need.
Not the one the other think it could fit a need that you don’t care about…

I need to leaving this place for a while I think.

Sorry, I did not mean to upset anyone. But I only speak for myself.

But I had the same issue with OBS to record Krita and when the recorder arrived, due to the outstandingly bad performance it has when I did test recordings. Instead of using it to record more I made my own alternative script to be able to use OBS instead. My script despite it’s constraints it goes by alot smoother on my pc at the end of the day.

I was suggesting an alternative solution to actually be able to use OBS. And if you look at the title OP wants to or wanted… to use OBS.

When i say

ā€œlooks like that’s the only way, will do itā€

Maybe i should say ā€˜those’ because I’m referring to. . . when using OBS my currenty choice looks like just to go record the whole screen, which isn’t ideal.

Or just use the default recorder.

For the default recorder though, I haven’t feel any slowness using it. . . while the snapshot do take a lot of space, it’s better than hitting my system cpu/gpu. Because i need them more than the storage. Not to mention, when the files is exported into a video, the file size is very small.

Nice for posting on space that have file size limit, like discord anemic 8mb limits.

*btw where can i get that obs plugin?

What OBS version are you using ?

27.2.3

If recording the whole screen works on OBS, you can ā€œresizeā€ the Source to hide the OS taskbar… use ā€œAltā€ key.

Yeah, i can do that. The whole screen recording still isn’t ideal though. Because sometimes, i need to do some other things too. Which needs to be edited out later.

So, to record painting, I don’t take the Krita or the OBS part. There are many tools for recording from the monitor. There are many free and paid tools out there. I have one of these.

It is the Tela plugin here in the forum. Krita 5 broke it a bit but I will fix it soon.

The one I use is 27.0.1.0

One of these day, I had similar issue. Except that the screen was black in my case.
So far, I’m not complaining.
They updated their software to support both Windows 10’s latest features and laptops with integrated+discrete GPUs.
Maybe downgrading would help. Not sure.
