This is a photo study of Miku Kobato, member of BAND-MAID
I just really like the lighting in this photo I saw on their profile page and finally found the time and motivation to paint it:
The main goal was to get a feeling for the colors in the various regions of the image, so picking colors from the reference was taboo. I also avoided color adjustments after painting the best I could, aswell as effect brushes (even though all the shiny parts could use tons of it…), so “just” paint with the colors you need. It was painted in 16-bit linear RGB for a more natural color blending.
Originally I wanted to do just rough details and fully focus on the colors, but made the mistake to do some details anyway, and then you kinda have to do it all ![]()
It was fun for the most part though, just the guitar drove me nuts at some point and made me trace parts of the decor, where I also noticed that the shape is quite a bit off (since the rest was all sketched by eye with a few reference points only).
About 44h of work, says Krita.
