when i try to save, theres an error saying couldn't save because it cannot write to the file

so for some reason when ever I try to save it says it can’t because, error occued while writing to the file reason: file cannot be copied. I have been saving before this has happen and nothing had happen

this is only happened once before and I think I had to restart my progress, before this time I was able to save without anything happening

there is an auto save file but I don’t want to close krita and open the auto save file, is there anything else i can do or do I have to open the auto save file

  • What OS are you using?
  • Which version of Krita are you using?
  • Where are you trying to save to?

I’m using windows 10

I believe the latest version of krita

in a folder in my documents

Please check: go to help->about Krita for the version number. Please give the exact and full path of the location where you are saving.

kirta version 4.3.0

documents > folder 1 > folder 2

Please,

  • Check whether there’s enough space on the disk
  • Check whether you can write a file in that location from another application
  • Check whether you can save in another location with Krita
  • Check whether the latest beta lets you save in that location: https://krita.org/en/item/second-beta-out-for-krita-4-4-0/

Oh, and I forgot to ask: are you running any kind of “security software” other than Windows Defender? And please check whether https://docs.krita.org/en/KritaFAQ.html#windows-krita-cannot-save applies.

Boud, I think Bug investigation needs to question fairly often similar questions,
Maybe it could be useful to collect key questions, code a questionnaire and let users check up and fill in all the information in a Form, so you need to process less similar problems, for a better workflow and saving on patience and time as well.

You developers do a great job :+1:t2:

We tried to do something like that: https://docs.krita.org/en/untranslatable_pages/triaging_bugs.html#canned-answers-and-recognizing-common-reports .

We’ve also tried setting up a stackoverflow-like site (ask.krita.org), but that wasn’t a success either.

There are also user-support products that help with recognizing questions and that provide canned answers, but all of those are proprietary, and we’re KDE, we use free software.

Sorry for going off topic. I like the simple way with the questions which leads in every new topic.

Would it be an improvement if there would be a short guide on how to get the needed information next to each question?

Sth like: Software version: Go to Help/About Krita
OS build: go to: windows key + xy key-combination

And thanks for the great job and all the support.

I think this has happen to me once or twice if it is what I think it is.

I usually save on a external drive and what ussualy happens that folder in that drive becomes unable to save untill Krita restarts. My solution has been to save some where on the drive where the OS is installed or in a folder closer to C:. For me just saving on the desktop helps. Once you are able to do that save to the other folder you should be able to save on the original problematic location again.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will add it to the question template right away.

Oh, I am glad to hear that this fits the bill.
