Hello, I am new to Krita and to digital drawing in general! I’ve finally taken the plunge into digital art. Though, I have a conundrum: where should the tablet be placed?
The instruction manual for my tablet suggested in front of the keyboard, centred with the monitor. But that makes typing impractical. (wacom intuos medium)
I did try placing it to the right of my mouse, but that felt clunky.
Where should I place it?
By the way, everything I own is wired, and those wires lead to my PC and it’s a pain to redo wiring- moving things depending on the task, except for minor adjustments, isn’t really an option.
how do you pysically paint or draw? This will be your best option.
For example, I have always sktched and painted by using a lap table in my lap, and a piece of paper on that, I have tried to sit at a desk, I have tried the method of following those instructions, but it never worked for me. So you need to do what works for you, and how you normally comfortably draw.
In my case as I mentioned, I have some health issues, so sitting up in a ridged chair for me, for too long, will really mess up my back due to injuries long ago. So that is my method.
If your cabling is USB-C you can get an extension cable for about 10 dollars which usually works well.
But the aswer to this, is what you are comfortable with.
I would say, if you aren’t comfortable, in the method you normally draw or paint in, then you will not have as good a time.
Thank you for your reply! Over the last couple of hours I’ve done some practice sketching. The most convenient I found so far is keyboard, tablet, mouse- but as I get used to the drawing pad I may be able to shove the keyboard and mouse out of the way! We’ll have to see.
Hi @Katy_Railway - I keep my pen tablet to the right of the keyboard. I draw with my right hand and leave my left hand on the keyboard. I’ve changed most of the shortcuts so that my left hand can do them easily. My laptop is elevated to eye level so that I’m not looking down at it (trying to avoid the neck problems that are beginning to plague society due to always looking down at a screen )
I usually keep my Wacom tablet on my lap but propped up on the edge of my computer desk. The keyboard is shoved out of the way and I keep the mouse on the far right. I use either hand for any keyboard shortcuts.
However, you should do whatever keeps you comfortable.
My tablet is Huion Giano and it has about 26 cm across the shorter side, which at least for me is completely comfortable to reach the keyboard. I just put the pen away and rest my arms on top of the tablet. When I draw I have my left hand on the keyboard. The tablet has BT, but I prefer wired connection for minimum latency.
Agreed. That’s why I have a TKL model (ten keys less). Although I immediately realized I’ll be missing them in Blender I mainly wanted a shorter one so it’s easier to work with a tablet stand (in the rare case I use it with a display tablet).
