Why cant i draw with a MyPaint brush?

I keep getting a message that says that the MyPaint feature isnt working, ive tried installing and reinstalling it and its still not working

Hi @_i_just_do_drawings - Welcome to the forum.

So you have Krita running on your system – when does the message arrive? As soon as you open the app or when you attempt to use one of the mypaint brushes?

Please tell us which operating system you’re on (Windows, Android, etc.).

I use windows, and its as soon as i try to use a brush, Ive tried multipul brushes and its all the same

I don’t know why this is happening. Would you try this brush? Basic 5-Size

Its the first one i tried

Did you get Krita from Krita.org or was it purchased from Steam or MS Store?

Kirta.org if i have to uninstall it again I’ll probably just purchase it because i also had issues where i cant use certain blending modes but that didnt bother me alot so i just worked around it

Uninstall/reinstall usually does nothing as all the config files remain.

This is worth a try… Rename the kritarc file (with Krita closed) and then restart Krita.

It’s in Users, YourName, AppData, Local

What’s the exact wording of the error message?
I’ve stumbled upon this thread where somebody has a problem with the MyPaint brush engine. It might help in your case.

EDIT: sry the link is to the correct thread, but not the comment I wanted to link  I need to take a nap.

If the image is not RGB/A or you’re painting on a mask (those are greyscale images) then a MyPaint brush will not work for some deep technical reason.

I’ve edited the topic title to better specify what the problem is.

Does your file use something different than RGBA color model? Certainly sounds like it. Or your layer is a mask, maybe.

By the way, the paid version is 100% identical to the free one. There is no difference.

I havent changed anything

Look at the bottom status bar, the ver bottom of the screen. It will tell you which colour space you’re in. Sometimes bringing in an image actually changes Krita’s colour space.
