The style is reminiscent of traditional Slavic folk wood carving

In this particular instance, I drew inspiration from the graphic art of the Russian artist Ivan Bilibin. I adore his work!

Just caught the last day of an M.C Escher exhibit at the Flint Institute of Arts recently and this reminds me of some of his woodblock prints. Wonderful!
