I would like to make some suggestions to improve brush editing.
Double clicking the tool opens brush editor. This is a pet peeve but is perhaps not too hard to implement. Having to open brush settings through the button feels counterintuitive to me, so being able to double click to open the Brush editor would make it easier to access.
Easy way to duplicate or delete brush. I know I can save a new preset from the brush editor, but right clicking the the tool would ideally give me options to duplicate, rename or delete the brush preset. I have not found a way to delete a preset at all.
When creating a new brush from the currently selected brush preset, keep tags attached. I have numerous tag groups for my brushes. If I am in a tag group and want to create a new version or modification of a brush, the tags are not carried over. This means the brush is not actually visible in the selected tag category. Having to then leave the tag group, find the new preset and tag it so it is in the correct group is quite annoying.
Give an option to change a settings for various brushes at once. If I want to make a specific modification to multiple brushes, like for instance the color jitter settings, I have to go into each brush individually to change the setting, which is very time consuming. CSP offers users the ability to apply a specific setting to all brushes or all brushes in a group. Having something similar would be very helpful.
Enable importing settings from one brush to another. If I want to make a brush that behaves in a similar way to another one or has the same look, I can only save a new preset from the existing one. The problem with this is, that I can not change the brush engine to create a mixer brush from a pixel brush (for example). As I can not have two windows of two brushes open similtaneously, it is quite hard to share settings between brushes.
There are some good points in here with the UI that we need to address. We have multple areas with brushes that do almost the same thing. I don’t know if we really need all the variations:
We might need to think about these areas a bit more. Maybe we don’t need this brush preset selector in so many different places. It does kind of clutter up the UI. Maybe we need to add options to the right click menu when you click a brush preset. You could either duplicate the brush preset, or delete the brush preset. This area:
That is also an interesting idea of double clicking on a brush preset to automatically open up the brush editor. It could also just be an option in the right-click menu for “Edit brush settings” or something to make it easier to discover.
I always use the brush selector in the toolbar, in fact I have a shortcut on my tablet since I mostly use the canvas only mode.
But several of my friends use docker, so I think keeping both seems best to me, I know there are people like me who prefer to use it in “floating” mode with a shortcut and other people who use docker.
