Working with Layers

I use layers a lot, love them but in my latest painting I have discover a line that shouldn’t be there. I have been through all my layers and I can’t find it. I thought if I held my pen on it it would highlight the layer but that doesn’t seem to work. It is on my painting but doesn’t disappear when I go through all the layers turning them off and on. Any ideas please

Problem solved, it was in a duplicated layer so I had to go through and turn off multiple layers. Is there a quicker way of finding which layer something is on

If you press+hold the ‘R’ key then the cursor will change to an icon of three small layers.
Then you can click on the canvas and the layer containing the paint that you clicked on will be selected.
There is a possibility that there is faint or semi-transparent paint on a layer above the paint your are interested in and that the higher layer will thus be selected.
You can then turn off the visibility of the selected layer to check and make sure it’s the one you want.
If it’s not, try again with that layer turned off.

I’m not sure I understand the problem correctly…

If I want to know if a layer contains any objects, I go to the layers docker, hold down the Ctrl key and click on the layer. This selects the non-transparent parts of the layer. This usually works.

Another thing I use, from time to time, is to put a solid cyan layer underneath: it works to make any lighter objects visible on the layers above…

Hi Guerreiro64, Thanks for the CTRL key tip, I will remember that. I also used contrasting dark shades at times behind my work too. My problem was I had a mark/line on my work that didn’t belong, and I couldn’t find the layer it was on as I had duplicated the layer so every time I turned a layer off the other still showed the line, I didn’t know about using the R key, it works very well
