Working with Text

I spent a couple hours last night trying to learn how to transform and manipulate text. I sometimes have to re-create logos and badges with text on them, involving curves and distortions. I also watched a few tutorials that showed using G’mic to curve text. I ended up flattening the text layer, then using the various transform tools to push and pull the text to the desired shape, which was very time consuming and difficult. Does anyone know if there is a “Fit text to path” option in working with text or in G’mic? I use that feature in CorelDraw which makes it easy to manipulate text… which also allows you to transform the text without flattening it. Any suggestions?

If you don’t find anything in Krita that would help, then you could try what you want to do in Gimp.

I think that ‘text along path’ is on the roadmap for text development in krita.

GIMP has ‘text to path’ but that means learning some aspects of using GIMP.

The G’MIC filter is ok for curving text around a circle if you learn how to use it. I tried it once and it’s not all that difficult to do. I can’t remember what it’s called though.

I’ve found it: It’s in Deformations: Sphere.

Also, you can use a Text brushtip in Pipe Mode which is ok once you get used to it:

I can remember doing things but I have problems remembering when and where I did them

If you are working with vectors and logos, the ideal is to use a vector program. Personally, I prefer to do the arts in Krita and the text part in Inkscape, then exporting the texts from Inkscape to Krita…
