XP-PEN configuration settings not being saved

Type of device (graphics tablet/display tablet/2-in-1 laptop/Android tablet): graphics tablet
Brand and version of the device: XP-PEN Deco 01 V2 (may be relevant to other XP-PEN tablets)
System (Windows/Linux/Mac/Android, + version): macOS 10.14.4

Description of the issue (you can include screenshots):

Anyone have trouble with getting XP-PEN products to save their settings using the “PenTabletSetting” application on Mac?

I sat down to paint this morning and tried to load a configuration file I had “exported” earlier, only to find that it did not restore any of my settings. I dug into it a little bit: compared configuration files exported from default settings in GUI to a file I exported after changing some settings. Both files are identical. Seems it’s not actually exporting the settings as it should.

I as able to edit the text of the config file and get that to register changes in PenTabletSetting when importing the file. But it is non-obvious how to change the config file text to get the settings I want.

Anyone have any advice? Or has anyone faced this before? I might be able to reverse-engineer the configuration file, but trying to see if this is a solved problem, or if it’s worth the time.

I do not use Mac, I’m on windows and the only issue I have with XP-PEN is with the tablet driver. I configure my Artist Display with it but every now and then when I reboot my computer it reverts everything to default. Sometimes I have issues importing the configurations I exported. Sometimes it stops working (the driver) and the pen’s sensitivity goes off the charts. But other than that, I know nothing.

the windows Pentablet software does not save settings automatically. You have to save configuration file.

  1. Go to the settings on the upper left corner of pentablet software
  2. Click on " export config" to save settings
  3. Clock on “import config” to restore settings.

sad to say you need to import config file everytime freshly boot the computer.

Hey this was happening for me, and for me it turned out to be a silly mistake.

I just had to click the little okay on the left side bar after customzing my settings, this apparently saves them. I was having the same problem wherein my config file was just the default setting but… yea turned out they just weren’t being saved.

Alternatively, you could get a config file from someone else if this doesn’t fix it, and if you don’t want to go about editing the config file by hand.

Thank you for this small comment! It took me a long time to find the answer to the question of why it was not saving my configuration, which was a bit frustrating! This was really helpful and I am lucky I came across it.

I work in UX and I think the UI design of the Pen Tablet app is pretty shocking. I had no idea that the “OK” button on the left was such a crucial step in the process , because it’s tucked away in the corner of the screen - and it should say “Save preferences”, not “OK”.

Thank you, finding that OK button was key.

I would definitely blame this issue on UI design (believe me, I did look for an OK or Save button many times!) where the button is in an unexpected location (not where the changes happen, but in a menu sidebar) and fades into the background (blue in blue). It also should be called Save since that’s what it does. - Even now that I know it’s there, it continues to be a conscious hunt and click operation.
